History

The School District of Bayfield mascot name “Trollers” honors a small community and its long time fishing tradition. By definition, a troller is one who trolls, and trolling is “To fish by trailing a lure or baited hook from a moving boat.”

This small rural school district is located at the very northern tip of Wisconsin on Lake Superior and in the community known as the Gateway to the Apostle Islands.  The district is comprised of five different communities – LaPointe on Madeline Island, the Town of Russell, Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and the City and Town of Bayfield.  Historically, Bayfield was created based on a variety of natural resources including lumber, agriculture and fishing.

The Troller logo image features a fishing boat graphic inside the image of a large circular helm. The logo graphic is complete with waves under the boat and seagulls flying over the boat.  See photos below – the image on the right is a photo of an embroidered logo used on clothing and other school spirit items.  The logo is featured on district website, letterhead, promotional material, athletic clothing and features prominently in the school gymnasium.    www.bayfield.k12.wi.us
