Athlete of the Week Nominees, May 27-June 2
Below are the nominees for the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of May 27th through June 2nd. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word.
Dylan Chmura, Waukesha West boys track and field, captured Division 1 titles in the shot put and discus. He finished with a 59 feet, 9 3/4 inches in the shot put and 171 feet, 11 inches in the discus.
Felix Corwin, Brookfield East boys tennis, defeated two-time reigning Division 1 champion Damon Niquet of Milwaukee Marquette 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 in the championship match.
Kennedy Blahnik, Algoma girls track and field, won her third straight Division 3 state titles in both the shot put and discus. She had a the state best mark in both events this year.
Mikayla Robertson, Menomonee Falls girls track and field, set the all-time state record in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 4 inches.
Cheyenne Holmes, Sun Prairie softball, went 3-for-3 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI's, including a grand slam in the Cardinals win over Verona 12-1 to advance to the Division 1 state tournament.
