Due to the short week and all the playoff hoopla, the Week 9 winner has been chosen by a vote of WSN staff. The Edgar Wildcats has been selected as the winner of the Week 9 WSN Team of the Week.
Wow. That's about all you can say about Edgar this year and especially their performance against previously undefeated Marathon in Week 9. The Wildcats dominated the game to the tune of a 61-0 final score. It was the seventh straight shutout for Edgar, and eighth overall. The only points they allowed all season came in a 48-6 win over Cadott in Week 2. Not to be outdone, the offense has been great as well, with Edgar also leading the state in scoring at 48.8 points per game. Jorie Skrzypchak rushed for four touchdowns, Justin Sinz completed 7 of 7 passes for 155 yards and 2 scores, and the defense produced two touchdowns as well against Marathon.

Menasha - After going just 3-6 last year, the Blue Jays reversed that record this year, finishing in sole possession of third place in the Fox Valley Association at 6-3. Menasha shutout Fond du Lac 23-0 in Week 9 in a battle of teams that came into the game at 5-3.
Eau Claire North - North has not made the WIAA football playoffs since 1998, and won't be joining the party this year. However, they have shown improvement and seem to be on a good path. Their Week 9 34-20 win over Superior could give the Huskies momentum heading into next season. One thing it did for sure is keep Superior out of the playoffs. Quarterback Brett Bodenburg threw three touchdowns and Tyler Sonsalla returned an interception for a touchdown late in the fourth to lead North.

Dodgeland - Dodgeland entered Thursday night's game with Montello/Princeton/Green Lake knowing they would have to score a win over the league's second place team in order to qualify for the playoffs. The Trojans pulled off the upset 14-7 to clinch a post-season berth. They picked off Jake Lunow five times and Ray Canales was a workhorse running the ball, totalling 39 carries for 172 yards and what proved to be the winning score.
Bangor - Bangor has been rolling all year, and a matchup with fellow unbeaten New Lisbon in Week 9 did nothing to slow them down. A balanced rushing attack and timely passing from quarterback Kyle Wright helped the Cardinals to a 42-6 win. Steve Peters ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns while Wright completed 5 of 6 passes for 101 yards and two scores. The only bad news was that leading rusher John Piske left early with a leg injury. His status for the playoffs is unknown at this time.

Due to the short week and all the playoff hoopla, the Week 9 winner has been chosen by a vote of WSN staff. The Madison Memorial tandem of Lechein Neblett and Mike Moss has been selected as the winner of the Week 9 WSN Player of the Week.
This is the first time a pair of teammates has been nominated together, but after the show these two put on last week it is well deserved. Moss threw for 394 yards on 20 of 30 passing with 6 touchdowns in a 63-13 win over Madison East that gave the Spartsns a share of the Big Eight title. Neblett caught 9 of those balls for 270 yards and 5 touchdowns, including a 99-yarder in the third quarter.

Matt Marszalek, Oregon - Marszalek rushed for 324 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 41-27 win over Madison Edgewood in Week 9. His two fourth-quarter touchdowns runs capped the Panthers comeback.
Brian Fliess, Catholic Central - Fliess has taken the reins of the Catholic Central attack and has the defending D7 state champs looking tough again this year. Fliess rushed for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns and threw for 154 plus two more scores as the Hilltoppers knocked off Racine Lutheran 42-35 to claim an outright Midwest Classic-South title.
Lechein Neblett/Mike Moss, Madison Memorial - This is the first time a pair of teammates has been nominated together, but after the show these two put on last week it is well deserved.
Trey Demler, Oshkosh West - With West's playoff hopes on the line, Demler came through, just as he has all year. The senior quarterback passed for 218 yards and 4 scores and ran it 4 times for 101 yards and another touchdowns as the Wildcats upended Kaukauna 35-7 to clinch a playoff berth.
Joe Carl, Fennimore - After missing much of the early part of the year with injury, Carl has returned to the lineup for the Golden Eagles just in time. With a playoff berth on the line, Carl rushed 9 times for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 35-0 win over Mineral Point. Normally the team's quarterback, Carl has adjusted quite well to his new role in the backfield, which included touchdown runs of 81, 35, and 84 yards.
Team of the Week - Week 8: Siren Dragons

Congratulations to the
Siren Dragons, the recipient of the Week 8 WSN Team of the Week award. Siren pulled out a 26-22 win over Winter last Friday, that made (or ended actually) some history. Siren was selected from a
quality group of nominees, and received
47% of the vote. Milwaukee Marquette finished second with 23%.
Siren recorded a 26-22 win over Winter Friday night in a battle of the bottom two teams in the Lakeland-Small. So what's the big deal you ask? Well, it was the first win for the Dragons in 42 games dating back to August 26, 2005. On the opening weekend of action that season Siren scored an 8-7 win over Webster, but hadn't felt the thrill of victory since then. It was the state's longest active losing streak, but not any more.
Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote, vote, vote. Look for the Week 9 nominees to be posted Friday afternoon.
