Introduction to WisFootball.net and WisSports.net

We've had a lot of new members and new visitors to our site in the last couple weeks, largely due to the start of the WIAA state football playoffs.  I thought it would be good to take a second and give our new people (and people that have been around awhile, but maybe missed some of our new features) an introduction to who we are and what we do.

Football Home Page
We have a plethora of information on our football home page.  At the top you can find a Teams link where you can click on your favorite team to find roster, schedule, stat, and box score information.  A Conferences tab that gives you conference standings, stats, and awards.

Speaking of schedules, make sure to check out and add our Facebook application that allows you to post your team's schedule and scores right on the front of your home page (you can even change it once football is over to show your team's basketball or other winter sport info). It also gives you access to the latest news right on your Facebook site. While you're at it, become a fan of WisSports.net on Facebook as well.

There's also our Scoreboard featuring the most up-to-date scores and game stats.  You can sort by weeks, conferences, and region. Each night during the post-season we'll be updating the scoreboard as scores come in and get posted from around the state. We are your one-stop-shop for scores on game days.

Make sure to check out our new feature this year, the 1st Annual WSN High School Football Awards. These awards will be presented annually to deserving senior student-athletes selected to represent one of seven positions:  quarterback, running back, wide receiver/tight end, offensive line, defensive line/linebacker, defensive back, and kicker/punter.

The representatives for the positions are as follows:

Quarterback – Dave Krieg, D.C. Everest High School & Milton College
Running back – Elroy “Crazylegs” Hirsch, Wausau High School & University of Wisconsin
Receiver/tight end – Al Toon, University of Wisconsin
Offensive line – Joe Thomas, Brookfield Central High School & UW
Defensive line/linebacker – Tim Krumrie, Mondovi High School & UW
Defensive back – Jim Leonhard, Flambeau High School & UW
Kicker/Punter – Kevin Stemke, Green Bay Preble High School & UW

Click on each award to see bios on the namesakes as well the semi-finalists; with five finalists for each award to be announced early next week.

The Rankings page features the only Coaches Poll in the state, as well as an RPI rating system.  You can sort by team offense and team defense to see how your team stacks up.  The Stats page is chock-a-block full of just that, all the stats you could dream of.  There's Season Leaders, Prep Props (weekly leaders), Big Gainers (touchdowns over 50 yards), and Kicking leaders.  You can sort these by category (rushing, passing, receiving), division, region, etc.

The Video page features game highlights from games throughout the state shot by WSN staff and media partners. In addition, we've expanded the Video page this year to include Video Interviews conducted at various Media Days across the state, as well as highlight videos submitted to us by players.

The Blogs section has the Kickoff Blog, your daily dose of what's going on around the state; the Next Level Blog featuring the state's most respected recruiting expert Marlin Lee; the Alumnni Blog that keeps tabs on what former Wisconsin high school players are doing in college and the pros; and the Recognize Blog with write-ups on our weekly Team of the Week and Player of the Week nominees and winners, as well as yearly awards.

Don't forget to check out all of our Conference Previews on the Football home page and on the Kickoff Blog. See where WSN and the conference coaches predicted your favorite team to finish, what players to watch, and how we did on those predictions.

In the Players section you can see player rankings by position, class, and college recruiting potential by WSN's Marlin Lee.  Past rankings are available as well.

You can join our Forum and talk about anything and everything in sports on our message boards.  We even have individual boards dedicated to each conference as well as a general high school football board.  We have many great posters with a wealth of knowledge and opinions to share.

Here at WSN we're passionate about high school sports, espcially high school football, and hope you enjoy our site and all the great new content.  As always, we'll continue to provide the best high school sports coverage in Wisconsin and continue to look for opportunities to expand our coverage.

Brief Company History
Wisconsin Sports Network began as the wishoops.net website on November 18th, 2002.  Our initial launch consisted of a high school basketball website Wishoops.net.  It quickly became the number one resource for high school basketball information in the state of Wisconsin.   Since then we have added several other WIAA sports and have accumulated:

- 250+ million page views
- 750,000+ unique IP addresses
- Bookmarked over 2,000,000 times

We have our website wissports.net (the #1 high school sports website in Wisconsin and a top five independently run high school sports site in the entire country), a quarterly magazine WSN Illustrated, and the Boys and Girls Basketball Yearbooks which are in their 25th year and 4th year respectively.  Our extensive relationships with individual coaches, coaches' associations, athletic directors, the WIAA, media partners, and fans throughout the state allow us to provide unmatched coverage.
