WSN Senior FB Awards - Krieg and Thomas Finalists

Below are finalists for our first annual WSN Senior Football Awards.
Dave Krieg Award – Outstanding Senior Quarterback Trey Demler, Oshkosh West - The Wildcats finished the year ranked #326 in scoring defense in the state. Why is that relevant in the description of a QB? Well, quite simply Trey Demler needed to outscore teams and did so enough to lead Oshkosh West to the playoffs. They ended up only one of three teams giving up more than 29 points per game that made the playoffs. For the season Demler completed 62.7% of his passes for 2538 yards and 24 touchdowns. The North Dakota commit also added 303 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
Mitchell Beau, St. Mary Springs – When a team is outscoring their opponents 45-5 on the season it means a lot of second halves on the bench for the starters. The Ledgers signal caller was still able to put up some pretty impressive numbers on the season. Through the air he is completing close to 60% of his passes for 1205 yards and 20 touchdowns against 3 interceptions. On the ground he has rushed for 349 yards and 10 touchdowns and has even caught a touchdown pass this season.
Brian Fliess, Catholic Central – A true double-threat, Brian Fliess has put up some tremendous combined numbers this season. On the ground he has ran for 1,002 yards and 16 touchdowns. Through the air he has completed 60% of his passes for 1,474 yards and 19 touchdowns. He leads what many consider to the favorite to win the D7 crown, with only one loss on the season coming in Week 1 to D2 Wilmot 7-0.
Drew McAdams, Madison East – Another double-threat, Drew McAdams was not only effective on the ground but he led the state in passing yards. Through the air he had 2,566 yards passing with 27 touchdowns and a 52.6% completion percentage. On the ground he had 674 yards and 7 touchdowns. Despite only two wins, McAdams was able to keep East in most games this season. A perfect example was in the opening game against eventual quad-champ Middleton he threw for 386 yards and 4 touchdowns and ran the ball 14 times for 125 yards. All told he had 300+ yard games against three of the four Big 8 Conference champs.
Mike Moss, Madison Memorial – Speaking of Big 8 Conference champs, Moss was a big reason why Memorial shared the title this season. He completed nearly 60% of his passes for 2,395 yards and 26 touchdowns. Going head-to-head against McAdams in the last game of the regular season, Moss put up 394 yards passing and six touchdowns in Memorial’s 63-13 win.
Joe Thomas Award – Outstanding Senior Offensive Lineman Justin Barber, Homestead – Anchored an offensive line that helped the Highlanders run for over 2,000 yards and pass for over 1,000. Coach Dave Keel says it best, “Justin Barber is a fullback playing guard. He runs like a deer and hits like a Mack truck. He is one of the most physical linemen we have had at Homestead and without any doubt the most athletic lineman we have ever had here.”
Sam Cunningham, Hudson – He was the leader on Hudson’s offensive line that helped the team average 235 yards rushing per game. Standing an opposing 6-5, 310 he had over 100 pancake blocks and knockdowns on the season and did not allow a QB sack all year.
Cody Endres, Lodi – An outstanding two way player for the Blue Devils, Endres is the leader of an offensive line that has generated over 2,000 yards rushing and protected QB Lucas Stronach enough to be able to pass for over 1,169 yards. The returning first team all-conference selection is a big part of Lodi’s 10-1 record and their march to Level Three of the playoffs.
Brad Kaatz, Pewaukee – A fast riser in the college recruiting world, Kaatz was a big part of Pewaukee’s undefeated regular season. He stands at 6-5, 275 and led the way in a run game that produced three runners with more than 500 yards and close to 1,000 yards of passing. His Coach Clay Iverson had this to say, “We have ran behind him en route to an undefeated season. He pass blocks, zone blocks, pulls and leads. For a big kid he plays with great leverage and is incredibly strong.”
Jake Irwin, Waunakee – A first team all-conference lineman last season, Irwin really burst onto the scene this summer after a dominating performance at the UW Badgers summer football camp. That performance got him a scholarship to Wisconsin, and he has once again been a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball this season. He and his linemates have led the way to over 2000 yards of rushing and 1000 yards of passing this season and 44 rushing touchdowns.

Whatever....how about Aaron Esala OT from Ashland standing 6'5" 311. Team Captain that led the Oredockers to their second straight conference championship. Aaron anchored the o-line in a running attack that totaled more than 2200 yards and he did not give up a sack or have a single holding call in the passing game totally nearly 1000 yards. He was recently named 1st team all conference, lineman MVP and overall MVP in the conference.
Once again the kids from north of highway 29 don't even get a sniff!!

Packers, He plays D6, the defense behind him is good, he has people on his team that can make plays, He played 2 more games then some people, This is no joke. He is good. He definately had alot of touchdowns and wins, but maybe just not the best. You might be able to switch him out with one of them but I think the list is solid as is.

Yeah he plays in d6, but he also has a smaller pool to have players from and the defense he had wasn't great. They have a d7 qb. up there and a d5, you take away the two games he played in the playoffs he had 32 td. with I believe 3 int.
