Cudahy tight end
Derric Junakin (6-3, 240) has received his first official opportunity to play football at the next level thanks to a preferred walk-on invitation from the University of Wisconsin.
“I got a letter this past Thursday from the tight ends coach, Coach (Joe) Rudolph,” Junakin said this weekend.
“He said he would love to work with me and thinks I could be a nice asset to their group of tight ends. He said they would love me as a preferred walk-on player and I'm seriously considering it,” explained Junakin who is ranked as the No. 3 tight end in the class of 2010 by WSN.
In addition to Wisconsin, Junakin has also garnered interest from such schools as Iowa State, Purdue, Illinois, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Illinois State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, Eastern Illinois, Drake, Minnesota-Duluth and virtually all of the Division III's in the state of Wisconsin.
“Full scholarship offers will be coming, but I know I can play at Madison, so I just need some time to think about it all,” Junakin said.
Junakin totaled 29 receptions for 491 yards and six touchdowns in route to CNI Newspapers first-team all-suburban and first-team all-conference laurels as a junior last season.
This year he had 27 receptions for 285 yards and a touchdown.
