Week 12 Player of the Week-Gage Maurer of Madison Edgewood

Sophomore Forward Gage Maurer of Madison Edgewood was selected as Player of the Week for week 12.  Madison Edgewood Head Coach Pete Rothering was nice enough to take the time to put together a rundown on Gage as a player, person and student:

Gage is an excellent young hockey player.  He stepped onto an experienced and deep team last year as a freshman and showed great progress through the course of the year.  He earned more and more playing time as the year went on and ended up scoring some very big goals the last half of the season, including the game winner late in the 3rd period of the state semi-finals.  He is a left handed "power forward" with great ability to protect the puck down low.  He forechecks with great energy, welcomes physical play, has good speed and a quick snapshot with an ability to score the "tough" goals as well.  This year he has stepped into a bigger role playing on our top line and PP.  He currently has 15-20-35 through 21 games in only his sophomore season.  Along with linemate Chris Beglinger, Gage has shown how dangerous it is for opposing teams to focus on linemate and Mr. Hockey finalist Cody Strang.  Gage also played this fall with Team WI minor and was recently listed on the USHL Central Scouting '92 Draft List."

"In addition to Gage's on-ice accomplishments and ability, he is an excellent student at a very challenging school and is a very respectful young man.  While quiet and humble, he is very coachable and team-oriented.  He puts the team first and simply goes about his business every day, doing whatever he can to help the team win.  He is a pleasure to have on the team and most certainly has a bright future ahead of him, both on and off the ice.

Thanks again to Coach Rothering for putting together this information, especially during a state tournament playoff week!
