Badgers' Craig Smith Receives Extra Game Suspension for Checking From Behind *UPDATED*

I'm hearing that there is a strong possibility UW Freshman forward Craig Smith will receive a 2-3 week suspension for his checking from behind penalty against Geoff Irwin of Mankato on Saturday.  He received a game disqualification for the hit when it occurred, meaning he is already suspended for the game this Friday against New Hampshire.  I have not seen any kind of official announcement at this point regarding a suspension.

Irwin's injuries from the hit will keep him out of Mankato's games this weekend versus #2 Denver.

I'll provide more information if/when it becomes available.

7:30 PM Edit-Smith has received an extra suspension, but it will only be for Saturday's contest.  In addition, Derek Lee has been cleared to play for the Badgers this weekend by the NCAA.

10/28-1:30 PM Edit-From what I'm being told it sounds like the WCHA may have been looking for a 4-6 game suspension, so the Badgers and Craig Smith are lucky that he will instead serve a 2-game penalty.

Good. If you hit someone on a dirty play you should be out as long as they are out. If it ends their season, you should be out for the season as well.
