Zuleger Decides NAIA

by Jennie Adrian, 11/20/2009

Bethany Zuleger (DC Everest) will sign her national letter of intent next week to join the Judson University basketball team for the 2010-11 season.  Zuleger, a 5’7 shooting guard, chose the NAIA school primarily because it aligns with her faith, has an excellent elementary education program and fits her skill and style as a player.  Judson’s aggressive defense and new offense mirrors the system used by the DC Everest girls’ program.

“I feel that playing or Coach Cook at Judson will be an extension of what I have learned from Coach Minnihan on offense and what I have learned from my Wisconsin Viking AAU coach, Dave Lee, on defense,” said Bethany.  “The school is a perfect fit for me both educationally and athletically.”

“Bethany has done everything she possibly could have to make this happen and as coaches we couldn't be prouder of her,” said DC Everest head coach John Minnihan.  “She has been and continues to be the type of team player that all coaches dream of and always does exactly what is asked of her.  She is there for her teammates at all times and is a great leader both on and off the court.  Bethany will have nothing but continued success in college and in whatever path she takes in her future.”

Morgan Lee to Bemidji State and Coach goes for Win #500 tonight

by Jennie Adrian, 11/17/2009

Bemidji State University, a Division 2 school in Minnesota, has landed one of Wisconsin’s top seniors for next season.  Morgan Lee (Hayward), signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to play for the Beavers starting the 2010-11 season.

Lee has helped lead the Hayward Hurricanes to back to back conference championships and was named first team all-conference both her sophomore and junior seasons as well as third team All-Northwest last season.  She has scored 771 career points and shot 48% from the three point line last season, which was good enough to lead the conference.

Both of her parents attended Bemidji State and her father, David, played men’s basketball while there from 1984-88.  His 2,034 points still ranks him as the all-time leading scorer and also holds the record for most career assists with 314.  For the full article click here.

Super Soph Makes Early Verbal to Badgers

by Jennie Adrian, 11/16/2009

Madison East sophomore Makailah Dyer has accepted a full-ride basketball scholarship to the University of Wisconsin that was offered to her by Badger head coach Lisa Stone last Friday.

This decision for Dyer comes early in the recruiting process as she will not begin her collegiate career until the fall of 2012.  However, the 5’9 guard had some underlying factors that aided in her early decision.  Makailah’s mother, Janet Dyer (formerly Janet Huff) played for the Badgers from 1980-1984.  She was the first UW women’s player to be named First Team All-Big 10 in 1984 and currently is still ranked twelfth on the school’s all-time scoring list.

Makailah, who was selected into the Pacesettter Basketball Elite Training program just this past March, averaged 13.2 points per game last season as a freshman and will undoubtedly be looked upon to help lead Madison East this coming season.  She was gaining momentum and receiving letters from multiple universities, but after her unofficial visit last Friday, where the scholarship was offered, she decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a Badger.

She chose Wisconsin over most notably Northwestern, Marquette and Princeton.

Who Am I....Final Round

by Jennie Adrian, 11/13/2009

WHO AM I?

With the yearbook hitting the stands, this will be the last WHO AM I? of the season.  Hopefully this one will challenge you a bit….

I have been a varsity starter for the past two seasons and have been named first team all-conference last year and second team all-conference as a sophomore.  I have scored 509 points and grabbed 111 rebounds and 143 steals during my career.  I hold the record at my school for the number of three pointers hit in a season with 48 and one of my most memorable moments was in the regional final game my sophomore year I went seven for nine from the three point line and helped my team pull out the victory.  On a side note, one of the toughest players I have even played against is Kayla Waddel.  WHO AM I?

Former Verona Player Joins Badgers

by Jennie Adrian, 11/12/2009

Alyson Bucierka, a former Verona Wildcat, was recently added to the University of Wisconsin women's basketball roster for the 2009-10 season.  The 5'6 guard was asked to join the Badgers after a preseason tryout.  Bucierka was a 2009 WBCA All-Star Selection and was named Wisconsin State Journal second team all-area and second team All-Big Eight Conference as a senior.

Bucierka helped the Wildcats to a 2009 WIAA Division 1 State tournament berth, and also to the state semifinal game for the first time in program history as a junior.  Aly served as team co-captain her senior year and averaged 9.8 points per game.  As a junior she earned honorable mention all-state, all-area and all-conference honors and averaged 7.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

"Aly will be a tremendous asset to the Badgers," said Verona Head Coach Angie Murphy.  "She has a tremendous work ethic and will do whatever the coaches ask of her to help contribute to the team in any way she can.  The Verona Girls Basketball Program is very proud of her!"

The Badgers will open the season this Sunday at noon against North Dakota at the Kohl Center.
