The Division 5 WBCA all-state team is highlighted by repeat selections Jorey Buwalda of Randolph, Brianna Dahl of Albany, and Ainara Sainz de Rozas of Assumption.
Buwalda, a Division I prospect, led Randolph to the program’s first state championship with a perfect 31-0 record. The 6-0 forward tallied 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.4 steals per game for coach Chad Kaufman and the Rockets. Buwalda, who was named Trailways West Player of the Year, will enter her senior year with 1,362 points.
Dahl led Albany to a sectional final appearance, falling to state champion Randolph, finishing the year with a 23-5 record. The 5-9 guard averaged 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 4.1 steals per contest for coach Derik Doescher and the Comets. Dahl was named Six Rivers East co-Player of the Year and scored 1,450 points in her career.
Sainz de Rozas helped lead Assumption to a state runner-up finish and a 27-4 overall record. The 5-5 point guard scored a team-best 11.1 points per game and added 2.4 steals per contest for coach Ryan Klein and the Royals. Ainara played a key role in the Royals claiming the 2021 state title. She netted 658 in her two years with the program.
Presley Buwalda helped Randolph claim the program’s first state title with a perfect 31-0 record. The 5-8 guard tallied 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per contest for coach Kaufman and the Rockets. Presley scored 775 points in her career.
Lauryn Deetz, an honorable mention pick last season, led McDonell to its second straight state tournament appearance. The 5-4 guard averaged 16.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per contest for coach Don Cooper which finished the year with a 25-4 record, dropping a state semifinal contest against Assumption. Deetz was named co-player of the year in the Cloverbelt West and scored over 1,100 points in her career.
Grace Ganshert led Argyle to a sectional appearance. The 5-6 guard averaged 19.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.4 steals per game for coach Jen Wellnitz and the Orioles which finished the year with a 16-11 record. Ganshert was voted co-player of the year in the Six Rivers East and scored over 1,000 points in her career.
Emme Golembiewski led Northwood to a sectional final, dropping a close contest against McDonell Central to end the season with a 26-1 record. The 6-0 forward tallied 14 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 3.3 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game for coach Jason Schultz and the Evergreens. Golembiewski was named Lakeland West Player of the Year and finished her career with 1,174 points and 996 rebounds.
Maddy Reichmann, an NCAA Division III UW-Platteville commit, led Wauzeka-Steuben to a regional final and a 21-6 overall record. The 5-5 point guard averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists. And 2.4 steals per game for coach Ben McCullick and the Hornets. Reichmann, the Ridge & Valley Player of the Year, scored 1,487 points in her career.
Lindsay Steien, an honorable mention all-state pick last season, led Blair-Taylor to a sectional appearance and a 26-2 overall record. The 5-9 guard was third in the state in scoring with 28.2 points per game. She also tallied 6.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.9 steals per contest for coach Jesse Lien and the Wildcats. Steien will enter her senior year with 1,730 points.
Nora Tucker led Bangor to a sectional final, falling to Highland, to finish the season with a 26-3 record. The 5-7 guard averaged 16.2 points per game and connected on 59 three-pointers. Nora also added 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.8 steals per game for coach Merlin Jones and the Cardinals. Tucker, the Scenic Bluffs Player of the Year, has scored 858 points in her career. She helped Bangor advance to the Division 4 state tournament as a sophomore.
Addy Verhagen led Sheboygan Lutheran to a regional final as a freshman, falling to undefeated state champion Randolph. The 5-4 point guard averaged 17.4 points, 6.4 assists, and 3.9 steals per contest en route to earning first-team all-Big East for coach Mike Scheele and the Crusaders.
