Ellsworth at Baldwin-Woodville

The Middle Border is looking really strong again this year, with seven of the eight teams receiving votes in the Coaches Poll last week. Ellsworth is unbeaten and ranked third in Division 4, while Baldwin-Woodville is unbeaten and ranked fifth. Ellsworth has won the last two Middle Border titles and hasn't lost a conference game since 2019, a streak of 21 straight league victories.

Janesville Parker at Janesville Craig

Don't look now, but there are some good things brewing in Janesville. Craig enters unbeaten, while Parker is 2-1. The Cougars didn't have much trouble with Madison West in the conference opener last week, but Parker did fall to Madison Memorial. It has been since 2005 that both Janesville schools made the playoffs in the same season. The Battle of the Rock will be played at Monterey Stadium, which both teams call home.

Verona at Middleton

These suburban Madison foes were the top two in the Big Eight last year and are expected to be at the top once again. Verona won the league last season, including a victory over Middleton. There's a long ways to go this year, but this Battle of Highway M could decide the conference again this season. Both teams have looked good so far, including Middleton, who downed Bay Port in Week 1.

Hudson at River Falls

River Falls got off to a rocky start to Big Rivers Conference play, falling to New Richmond 28-21 last week. The Wildcats are looking to rebound quickly to stay in the league race. Hudson and River Falls shared the Big Rivers title last year, though River Falls won the head-to-head matchup. Hudson is coming off a narrow 13-8 win over Chippewa Falls.

Wisconsin Rapids at Stevens Point

This will be the 108th meeting between these longtime central Wisconsin rivals, who now compete against each other in the Valley Football Association. Stevens Point holds a 56-40-11 advantage in the series, which was first played in 1912. Stevens Point is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Wisconsin Rapids is still searching for its first victory of 2023.
