Every Wednesday during the regular season we will highlight the 8-Player Football game with a spotlight article on WisSports.net. We'll look back at the action and big stories from the previous week, look ahead at the coming week's big match-ups, and select a Star of the Week.

The Game of the Week came in the CWC-East, where top-ranked Gilman took on seventh-ranked Owen-Withee. Leading 12-6 heading into the fourth quarter, Gilman tacked on a couple insurance scores to post a 28-6 victory. Troy Duellman led a balanced rushing attack with 277 yards, while the Gilman defense limited Owen-Withee to just 128 yards of offense.

Gibraltar remained in a tie atop the Peninsula Conference, taking down Gillett 48-19. Braden Kita threw for 268 yards and five touchdowns, with Braden Sitte catching seven passes for 211 yards and three scores. Sitte also ran for a touchdown and recorded 12 tackles on defense.

Shell Lake shellacked Frederic 68-22, as Brock Naessen, wearing number 55, ran for 146 yards and five touchdowns on just 11 carries.

Oakfield ran just 31 offensive plays but defeated Menominee Indian 88-0 on Friday, jumping out to a 37-0 lead and scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter despite the running clock that began at the beginning of the second quarter. Oakfield had nine different players run the ball, three players throw the ball, and five different players catch passes. 17 players were credited on the defensive game sheet.

Elkhart Lake-Glenbuelah joined Oakfield in the 80-point club, rallying from a 32-8 first quarter deficit against Williams Bay to win 80-38. Cole Wagner threw for 358 yards and five touchdowns, Forrest Figueroa ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries, Brody Feldmann caught eight passes for 185 yards and three scores, and Zander Lulloff hauled in three passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Three Lakes hammered White Lake/Elcho 72-8, as Jared Kaufman threw for 320 yards and six touchdowns, with Tyler Janikowski catching five passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns.

It was a wild matchup between first-year standalone programs, as Valley Christian (Oshkosh) defeated Montello 42-36 in four overtimes. Mathias Behling hit Josiah Lehman for what proved to be the winning score in the fourth overtime.

On Saturday, Clayton took down Siren 43-22 in a top ten Lakeland-West showdown. Total yards went to Siren, but Clayton won the turnover battle. Landon King ran for 263 yards and three touchdowns for Clayton.

There are several matchups between teams currently undefeated in conference play this week. The list includes second-ranked McDonell Central taking on New Auburn in the CWC-West 8. Also, sixth-ranked Florence will face off against third-ranked Three Lakes in the Northern Border. 

North Crawford gets a chance to show it's 5-0 start isn't a fluke, as they'll take on Belmont. Phillips meets up with Northwood/Solon Springs in another battle for first place, in the Lakeland-East 8.

Gibraltar and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas are each a perfect 5-0 overall, and the ninth-ranked Vikings of Gibraltar will welcome in eighth-ranked Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas under the Friday night lights.

In a matchup of top ten teams with conference championship implications, Gilman remained unbeaten and atop the 8-player Coaches Poll with a 28-6 win over Owen-Withee. Senior Troy Duellman had himself a game, rushing 15 times for 128 yards with all four Pirates touchdowns, including a pair in the fourth quarter to help put the game away. He also caught two short passes and had a team-high 15 tackles on defense.
