Recap of the 2024 WIAA State Softball Tournament

The 48th annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Softball Tournament was held Thursday through Saturday at Goodman Diamond in Madison. 

Kenosha Bradford, Waupun, Prescott, Fall Creek, and Pacelli captured WIAA state titles. 

Division 1

Kenosha Bradford captured the program's first softball state championship, defeating Milton, 9-3, in the Division 1 state title game.

The Red Devils scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and led 7-1 after six innings on their way to winning the contest by six runs. 

Kenosha Bradford collected 10 hits in the win with Aubrey Strelow, Angela Parker, and Morgan Smith all tallying two hits. 

Parker and Celia May led the way with two RBIs each for coach John Ruffolo and the Red Devils.

Strelow earned the win, pitching 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts while issuing four walks.  Brooklynn Danielson pitched the final 1 2/3 innings (2 strikeouts, 1 walk), picking up the save. 

Kenosha Bradford finished the season with a 28-3 record. The Red Devils were ranked No. 2 in the final WFSCA/WSN Softball Coaches Poll.  

Milton, which ended Kaukauna's 108-game winning streak in state semifinals, finishes the season with a 26-3 record. The Red Hawks were ranked No. 7 in the final WFSCA/WSN Softball Coaches Poll.

Division 2

The Waupun Warriors won the program's first-ever softball state championship, posting a 7-3 win over Mosinee in the Division 2 WIAA state title game. 

The Warriors trailed 1-0 after three innings before plating two in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead and then added five runs in the fifth en route to the victory. 

Addison Braun picked up the win in the circle for Waupun, striking out five and walking two. At the plate, Braun went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a triple, finishing with five RBIs and a run scored. 

Ava Vande Zande also collected three hits for coach Josh Navis and the Warriors. 

Waupun finishes the season with a 20-4 record. The Warriors were ranked No. 8 in the final WFSCA/WisSports.net Softball Coaches Poll. 

Mosinee ends the year with a 28-2 record. The Indians were the top-ranked team in the final WFSCA/WSN Coaches Poll. 

Semifinals:

Division 3

The Prescott Cardinals claimed their first gold ball in team history, topping Laconia, 3-1, in the Division 3 WIAA state title game. 

The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead and held on to win by that score. 

Leah French paced Prescott's offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. 

Ella Stewart earned the victory in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out four and issuing two walks for coach Nick Johnson and the Cardinals. 

Prescott finishes the year with a 21-8 record. The Cardinals were unranked in the final WFSCA/WisSports.net Softball Coaches Poll. 

Laconia, unranked in the final WFSCA/WSN Coaches Poll, ends the season with a 21-9 record.

Division 4

The Fall Creek Crickets won their first softball title in program history, posting a 7-0 win against Cuba City in the Division 4 state championship game. 

The Crickets scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth and added six more (all unearned) runs in the sixth to post the shutout win. 

Emma Westrate led the hitting attack with three hits. Grace Herrem and Averie Barka each collected two hits for coach Brad Ceranski and the Crickets. 

Herrem led the way with two RBIs and pitched a four-hit shutout with four strikeouts to pick up the win. 

Fall Creek finishes the season with a 30-2 record. The Crickets were ranked No. 2 in the final WFSCA/WSN Softball Coaches Poll. 

Cuba City ends the season with a 23-3 record. The Cubans were ranked No. 4 in the final WFSCA/WSN Softball Coaches Poll.

Division 5

Pacelli won its second straight Division 5 WIAA State Softball Championship, defeating Oakfield, 4-3, in the title game on Saturday. 

The Cardinals, which also defeated Oakfield in the 2023 title game, scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead and held on to earn the one-run win. 

Amelia Martini led the hitting attack with two hits, Katy Ilkka drove in a team-high two runs, and Maddy Pionek led the way with two runs scored for coach Ann Molski and the Cardinals. 

Peyton Mancl earned the victory in the circle, tallying 11 strikeouts with no walks in the contest. 

Pacelli finishes the season with a 28-2 record. The Cardinals were ranked No. 2 in the final WFSCA/WisSports.net Coaches Poll. 

Oakfield ends the year with a 26-4 record. The Oaks were the top-ranked team in the final WFSCA/WSN Coaches Poll.
