Below are the rSchoolToday Athlete of the Week Nominees for this week. Voting is open until Thursday at 2:00 pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

Braun was electric on both the mound and at the plate as she helped the Waupun softball team to its first state championship in school history. First in a 2-1 win over New Berlin Eisenhower in the Division 2 state semifinals, the sophomore took the mound and went the distance, allowing one run (unearned) on five hits. She struck out nine batters and walked two in the win. Braun took the mound again in the WIAA Division 2 State Championship against Mosinee and got her second win of the tournament. She pitched a complete game and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out five. She did damage from the plate in the championship bout as well. Braun went three of four with five RBIs. She had an RBI triple in the fourth before hitting a grand slam in the fifth, getting it done in all facets of the game.

Herrem was untouchable on the mound as she led Fall Creek to its first state championship in the softball team's first state appearance. The junior hurler took the mound in the Crickets 12-0, five-inning, run-ruled victory over Coleman in the Division 4 state semifinals. Herrem allowed just two hits while striking out six in the shutout win. She added a double, two RBIs and a walk from the plate. Herrem then pitched another gem in the WIAA Division 4 Softball State Championship against Cuba City, a 7-0 shutout win. Herrem tossed a complete game shutout, striking out three batters and allowing just four hits through her seven innings of work. She also added two hits and two RBIs from the plate.

Matson was exceptional as she helped lead the Kettle Moraine/Badger girls lacrosse co-op to the very first WIAA Girls Lacrosse State Championship. The co-op first had to take care of Muskego in a sectional final on Tuesday and did so convincingly in a 17-6 win. In that game, Matson had a pair of goals on two shots. Matson and the Lasers then squared off with the University School of Milwaukee co-op in the first ever state championship in girls lacrosse with Kettle Moraine/Badger coming out with a 17-15 win. Matson was relentless. The senior midfielder had a team high seven goals on eight shots as she scored four of her goals in the second half.

Passini was great as he led the Middleton boys lacrosse team to the inaugural championship in that sport in WIAA history. The Cardinals knocked off Waunakee 14-7 on Tuesday in a sectional final as Passini was all over the field in the victory. The senior attacker had four goals on six shots and added an assist in the win. Middleton then squared off with Neenah in the first state championship in the first season as a WIAA sponsored sport. The Cardinals won in a thriller 7-6. Passini finished with a goal and two assists while keeping constant pressure on the opposing defense, recording twelve shots. No play was more important than his assist with 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter putting Middleton up 7-6 and proving to be the game-winning goal.

Schmidt took home individual medalist honors in Division 1 at the 2024 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament this past week. The senior golfer shot a one-over par overall to take home the title, winning by two strokes over DeForest's Lincoln Hottmann. Competing on the Meadows Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Schmidt shot a 74 and was one stroke behind the leader after the first 18 holes on Monday. Tuesday, he shot a 71, to finish with that 145 total. Schmidt finished tied for 57th at last year's state meet.
