Marshfield Black captured the Pools A-B title, Green Bay Preble won the Pools C-D title and Loyal won the Pool E playoff at the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Summer Tournament held June 7-8 in Marshfield. 

Following are some observations from the fifth annual event:

Pool A Standings
Marshfield Black 4-0, River Falls 3-1, Merrill 2-2, Mosinee 1-3, Marathon 0-4.

Stevens Point Black 4-0, Wausau East 3-1, Altoona 2-2, Stratford 1-3, Medford 0-4.

Pools A-B Most Valuable Player

Brooks Hinson, 6-2, Sr., G, Marshfield Black
The game seems to slow down a bit for Hinson, one of the state's elite class of 2025 guard prospects. He always seems under control, takes big shots and makes them, and keeps opponents in front of him and challenges shots on the defensive end of the floor. Hinson is a very unselfish offensive player. He will score when his team needs him, but he's also a very willing passer to his talented teammates. He played his best game at the WBY Marshfield Tournament in the Pools A/B title game against Stevens Point Black, scoring 26 points and drilling six three-point shots. The two-time first-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference performer currently owns NCAA Division II scholarship offers from both Northern Michigan and Winona State.

Pools A-B Breakout Performer

Valin Ramberg, 6-7, Jr., F, Marshfield Black
A mobile big man who runs the floor, scores in transition and is aggressive in seeking points, Ramberg is a vastly improved class of 2025 prospect who seems to be gaining confidence by the day. He has good shooting range -- he made five triples in five games for the Tigers -- and can score in the halfcourt with his quick moves in the post. The son of former Granton standout Charlie Ramberg, Valin Ramberg went off for 27 points in Marshfield Black's win over River Falls and figures to be a key asset for a very, very good Marshfield squad in 2024-25.

Pools C-D Most Valuable Player

Ty Gerard, 6-0, Sr., G, Green Bay Preble
Gerard figures to be the team leader for upstart Green Bay Preble in 2024-25. A two-year varsity performer who competes with physicality and solid leadership, Gerard averaged 10.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists as a junior for the Hornets. He played very well for a guard-heavy Preble squad in Marshfield, scoring 20 points and dropping a couple of triples in a 54-53 victory over Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, and adding 14 points and two more three-point baskets in a win over McDonell Catholic.

Pools C-D Breakout Performer

Landon Lipke, 6-7, Sr., F, Royall
An improving big man with good moves around the basket and the ability to finish through contact, Lipke was a consistent scorer for the Panthers in Marshfield. He had 14 points in the Pools C/D title-game loss to Green Bay Preble, and scored in double figures in four of five outings for Royall, which went 25-3 a year ago. Lipke averaged 8.9 points and 5.3 rebounds as a junior, and his size, strength and experience will be big assets for a Royall program expected to field yet another quality squad next winter.

Bryce Deegan, 6-2, Jr., G, Loyal
Loyal has made steady progress as a program during coach Brandon DeSmet's four years as head coach. The Greyhounds won seven games in DeSmet's first year, followed by victory-totals of 11, 11 and 12. Loyal is considered a title threat in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference next season in large part because of the play of Deegan, a returning second-team all-league performer. He made shots from the mid range and from outside the arc in Marshfield, and led his club to a 5-0 record. Deegan averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists as a sophomore, and appears ready to build on those numbers in 2024-25.

Pool E Breakout Performer

Jed Henderson, 6-5, Jr., F, Rib Lake
The son of Rib Lake coach Todd Henderson, Jed Henderson is coming into his own as a basketball player. He scored in double figures in all four games for Rib Lake in Marshfield, including a 20-point outing in a win over Columbus Catholic White. Henderson can score in the post, from the perimeter and off the bounce. He played varsity basketball and averaged 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as a sophomore for a Rib Lake squad that went 21-6 and won the Marawood North Conference crown.
