The 76th Annual Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Baseball State Tournament took place Monday-Thursday, June 10-13, at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wis.

The De Pere baseball squad won its first state title in program history on Thursday, outlasting a very talented Sun Prairie East team 5-1 in the final baseball game of the 2024 season.

En route to the title game, De Pere knocked off Menasha 2-0 in the Division 1 quarterfinals and Westosha Central 8-1 in the semifinals, culminating in the Redbirds hoisting the title, and a 27-3 record on the season.

Senior hurler Landon Raygo went the distance on the mound for De Pere, tossing a complete game four-hitter. Raygo allowed just the one run while walking four and striking out seven.

The offense scored four of its five runs in the first two frames, giving Raygo a cushion to settle in on the mound. Leadoff hitter Axel Donaldson led the offense with three hits and an RBI while Easton Arendt got on base three times via the walk. Just one of the runs scored by the Redbirds was earned as errors proved costly for the Sun Prairie East defense.

For Sun Prairie East, Joe Tamboli took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs, all unearned, in three innings of work.

Sun Prairie East finished runner-up in the second season after the district split. It was the eighteenth appearance at state overall.

Edgewood leaned on its potent offense as the Crusaders won the programs third state title in their first appearance since 2011. Edgewood used a five-run fifth inning to knock off Mosinee 12-6 in the WIAA Division 2 State Championship.

Third-seeded Edgewood eked out a 4-3 win over second-seeded Kettle Moraine Lutheran in the semifinals, setting up matchup with top-seeded Mosinee.

Despite surrendering six runs, four earned, Steffen Mello pitched six and two-thirds innings, almost going the distance. He weathered a three-run first inning by the Indians and settled in, allowing just three more runs over the next five.

The Crusader offense took a while to get going but then burst through with two runs in the third, two in the fourth, and a huge seven runs in the fifth inning, busting the game wide open.

Davis Halbleib and Carson Jesberger both knocked in two runs for Edgewood as Bennett Cagle reached five times, once on a double, and four times via a walk. All but one of the Crusaders who registered an at-bat collected a hit, as eight different batters knocked in a run.

On the mound for Mosinee, Keagan Jirschele took the loss, pitching three and a third innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

Mosinee did win the program's first state tournament game in its seventh appearance and will take home the program's first silver ball.

Aquinas collected gold in Division 3 on Thursday after finishing runner-up last season, knocking off an extremely talented Kenosha St. Joseph squad 6-4.

The Blugolds shut out Cumberland 10-0 on Tuesday in a WIAA Division 3 State Semifinal matchup and finished the year 25-4.

On the bump for Aquinas was senior Tanner Peterson who almost went the distance, recording all but the last out in the win. He struck out seven batters while allowing four runs on seven hits. Eddie Peters came in and struck out the final batter to secure the win.

This contest was low-scoring until the fourth inning as Kenosha St. Joseph was up 1-0 going in to the bottom of the frame. That's when the Aquinas offense came to life. The Blugolds scored four runs in the frame. Jacob Thornton drove in the first run on an RBI single, followed by a fielders choice RBI by John Deets and two more via a double by Kyle White. Eddie Peters blasted a solo home run in the fifth to make it 5-1 as the Aquinas would hold on from there.

Dylan Love and Tommy Santarelli combined to allowed six runs on eleven hits for the Lancers, only striking out two.

Kenosha St. Joseph finished 24-5 on the year and competed in the program's seventh state tournament, winning its first silver ball to go along with four gold.

Eleva-Strum began championship Thursday with an emphatic 11-1 win over Northwood/Solon Springs in the WIAA Division 4 State Championship. The Cardinals were playing in the program's first ever state tournament, culminating in gold.

Eleva-Strum rallied in its semifinal matchup with Pacelli, winning 3-2 via two runs in the eighth, as the Cardinals finished with a 23-8 overall record.

Tyler Webb was exceptional on the mound for Eleva-Strum, pitching the complete five innings and allowing just one run. He held the co-op's offense to just three hits and three walks while striking out six batters over his five innings.

The Cardinal offense did all the damage it needed in the first inning and score all eleven runs in the first two. Four hits, an error, and a walk led to the seven runs scored in the opening frame, as three more walks, two errors, and just one hit led to four more in the second. Alex Anderson drove three runs in from the seventh spot in the lineup. No Eleva-Strum hitter recorded more than one run, however the Cardinals took advantage on the base paths, manufacturing runs with speed.

Jared Schultz recorded just one inning on account on the mound for Northwood/Solon Springs, but gave up all eleven runs, seven earned, despite giving up just five runs.

The Northwood/Solon Springs offense struggled throughout, collecting just three hits in the game against Webb and the Cardinal defense behind him.

Northwood/Solon Springs finished 19-2 on the year and played in the program's first ever state tournament.
