De Pere captured the Pools A-B title, Oshkosh North won the Pools C-D title, Cedarburg won the Pools E-F winner, and Port Washington won the Pools G-H crown at the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Summer Tournament held last weekend in Kaukauna. 

Following are some observations from the 19th annual event:

Pool A Standings
De Pere 4-0, Kaukauna Black 3-1, D.C. Everest 2-2, Homestead 1-3, Brookfield East 0-4.

Eau Claire Memorial 3-1, Bay Port 2-2, Neenah 2-2, Wisconsin Lutheran 2-2, Germantown 1-3.

Pools A-B Most Valuable Player

Zach Kinziger, 6-3, Sr., G, De Pere
Opposing fans can pretty much view Kinziger as a heartbreaker whenever he has the ball. In all likelihood, something bad is going to happen to the opponent since Kinziger is so lethal in either scoring or creating an opportunity for a teammate. He is shifty with the ball and can create space with his ability to change directions quickly. He is a very good mid range shooter and has range well beyond the three-point arc. Kinziger, who committed to Wisconsin last August, averaged 17.0 ppg in leading De Pere to a 5-0 record in Kaukauna. He also made 15 three-point baskets for the Redbirds. The three-year varsity performer begins his senior season under coach Brian Winchester with 1,248 career points and is a legitimate threat to win the Mr. Basketball award in 2024-25.

Pools A-B Breakout Performer

Cooper Jesperson, 6-3, Sr., G, Eau Claire Memorial
It's been four-and-a-half months since Jesperson last played intense basketball on consecutive days due to an injury. But you'd never know it after watching the smooth backcourt ace in Kaukauna Friday and Saturday. Jesperson, one of the state's elite shooters, played exceptionally well for a very good Eau Claire Memorial squad. He made 17 three-point baskets over five games while helping the Old Abes to wins over Germantown, Neenah and Bay Port while also sustaining close losses to De Pere and Wisconsin Lutheran. The next month or so will be huge for Jesperson as he attempts to earn scholarship offers for the next level. He will play with Eau Claire Memorial in the June Jam in Appleton next weekend before hitting the road and playing with the talented Wisconsin Playmakers 17U squad in July.

Pools C-D Most Valuable Player

Zay Mitchell, 6-7, Sr., G/F, Oshkosh North
Not really sure how you can slow down Mitchell. Perhaps double teaming him all over the court might do the trick. But somehow, he'd probably still find his way to the basket. One of the state's elite scorers, Mitchell did his thing in leading Oshkosh North to a 5-0 record. He scored from outside the arc, off the dribble, in transition and from the mid range. He got to the foul line and made his free-throw attempts and was efficient in doing all of that. The Iowa State recruit is the returning Player of the Year in the Fox Valley Association and already has scored 1,818 career points. Good luck trying to slow him down in 2024-25 as he appears as sharp, as talented and as hungry for success as ever. 

Pools C-D Breakout Performer

Zach Orr, 5-11, Sr., G, Rice Lake
Orr has been an accomplished player for Rice Lake the past three seasons, but the son of Rice Lake head coach Kevin Orr appears to have taken his game to a new level this summer. The speedy lead guard was fantastic in Kaukauna, using his quickness, ball skills and toughness to cause havoc for opponents. He went for 27 points and four triples in a win over West De Pere, and had 19 points and five three-pointers in a win over Green Bay Preble. He was also superb in close losses to Slinger and Kimberly. The first-team all-Big Rivers Conference performer begins his senior season with 1,060 career points.

Pools E-F Most Valuable Player

Logan Zahour, 6-4, Sr., F, Cedarburg
Impressive in virtually every aspect of the game, Zahour's physical strength, impressive verticality and rock-steady ball skills helped Cedarburg to a 5-0 record in Kaukauna. He had 20 points and a pair of three-point baskets in the Pools E-F title-game win over Greenfield. He finished the five games the Bulldogs played with 14 made three-point attempts. Zahour plays very well off two feet on drives into the paint and can rise up and score over taller defenders due to his impressive jumping ability. Zahour averaged 21.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as a junior and earned first-team all-North Shore Conference honors.   

Pools E-F Breakout Performer

Dahir Abdullahi, 5-11, Sr., G, Greenfield
Abdullahi is Exhibit A in proving there are good players all over the state. Although a bit from the limelight competing in the Woodland East Conference, Abdullahi showed his considerable skillset in Kaukauna. He shot the ball well, passed it even better and was extremely active on defense for upstart Greenfield. He had swished 11 three-point baskets over five games and scored in double figures four times, including a 23-point outing in a narrow win over Notre Dame Academy. The returning first-team all-Woodland East Conference performer averaged 16.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists as a junior.

Pools G-H Most Valuable Player

Cal Loose, 6-1, Jr., G, Port Washington
An improving backcourt prospect from the highly competitive North Shore Conference, Loose played at a very high level in Kaukauna, leading upstart Port Washington to a 5-0 record. He scored in double figures in four of five games and made multiple three-point baskets three times. Coming off a sophomore year in which he averaged 14.9 points and 3.2 rebounds, Loose is one of the key leaders for a Port Washington squad looking to improve upon a 7-19 record.   

Pools G-H Breakout Performer

Logan Ramczyk, 6-1, Soph., G, Xavier
An important player off the bench as a freshman for a Xavier squad that went 24-3, Ramczyk could emerge as one of the better guards to come out of the school. Standout guards such as Kip Whitlinger (1963), Pat Fitzgerald (1968), Josh Renkens (1991), Sam Burkart (2016), Hunter Plamann (2018) and Charlie Pfefferle (2022) rank among the school's all-time top scorers, and Ramczyk could end up surpassing many of those players during his prep career. He has good size, very good ball handling and shooting skills, supreme confidence, and an eagerness to work on his game. Ramczyk flashed very deep shooting range in Kaukauna and was the Hawks' top scorer in the event.
