Sheboygan Lutheran captured the Pools I-J title, Appleton North won the Pools K-L title, Lake Country Lutheran won the Pools M-N crown, Bonduel won Pools O-P, and West Allis Central won the Pool Q playoff at the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Summer Tournament held last weekend in Kaukauna. 

Following are some observations from the 19th annual event:

Pool I Standings

Pools I-J Most Valuable Player

Drew Daoust, 6-1, Sr., G, Southern Door
No returning player in the Wisconsin high school landscape next season has scored more points than Daoust, who begins his final go around with the Southern Door Eagles with a whopping 2,225 career points. The point producer with the smooth perimeter jump shot piled up a boatload of points in Kaukauna, averaging 27.8 points and drilling 15 three-point shots while helping the Eagles to a 2-2 record. A two-time Player of the Year in the Packerland Conference and three-time first-team all-league pick, Daoust handles the ball exceptionally well and is more than willing to pass to open teammates as evidenced by his 4.4 assists per game as a junior. Daoust, who owns a NCAA Division II scholarship offer from Newman University, also averaged 32.8 points and 5.5 rebounds last season.

Ben Prochnow, 5-10, Jr., G, Reedsville
When your point guard can pass, dribble and shoot, it's always a good thing. Prochnow can do all of the above and do it with ease and consistency. The son of Reedsville coach Ron Prochnow, Ben Prochnow is an ever-improving lead guard with a smooth stroke, strong ball handling skills and a eye for the entire court. He averaged 14.8 points and hit at least one three-point shot in all five games for Reedsville. The returning first-team all-Big East Conference performer is definitely one of the top backcourt players in the Northern Division of the league.

Pools K-L Most Valuable Player

Grant Hardy, 6-3, Jr., G/F, Appleton North
A vocal leader who competes with a very high feel for the game, Hardy was at his best in Appleton North's exciting 70-59 win over Wauwatosa West. With his team trailing well into the contest, Hardy erupted for six three-point shots and scored 22 points. In addition, he found open teammates and executed a perfect lob pass on a baseline inbounds pass that resulted in a dunk for teammate Abraham Tomori. Hardy is a solid defender who can use his size and quickness to slow down perimeter players or use his physicality and height to guard near the basket. Hardy scored in double figures and hit at least one triple in every game as the Lightning went 5-0 and served notice they will be among the title contenders in the Fox Valley Association in 2024-25.

Pools K-L Breakout Performer

Jalen Brown, 6-4, Soph., G, Wauwatosa West
Brown is coming into his own in terms of his overall game as he has emerged as a big lead guard whose shooting and passing skills are highly impressive. The rangy backcourt prospect had 23 points and five three-point baskets in the Trojans' loss to Appleton North, and he competed with confidence and extreme competitiveness in that contest. Brown is part of an outstanding backcourt combination for Wauwatosa West along with sharpshooting senior Jake Hansen. Even with the loss of Kai Rogers (6-11) to Overtime Elite, look for Brown, Hansen and Matthew Kloskey to help Wauwatosa West again rank among the top teams in the Greater Metro Conference next season.

Pools M-N Most Valuable Player

Carter Koch, 6-5, Sr., G/F, Oconto
A lot of college coaches who attended the WBY Tournament in Kaukauna were checking out Koch. And with good reason. He's a big wing prospect with excellent athleticism and very good skills. Koch scored at a high level for the Blue Devils, netting 86 points in four games (21.5 ppg) and dropping five first-half triples in a win over Campbellsport. Koch is a hustle player who gets loose balls, snares rebounds and can fill the lane or even lead the fast break. He is coming off a junior season in which he earned unanimous first-team all-Packerland Conference honors after averaging 22.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists.

Dan Cleary, 6-7, Sr., Lake Country Lutheran
A big man who runs the court exceptionally well, can finish above the rim or step outside and knock down a three-point shot, Cleary is an emerging frontcourt prospect in the state's 2025 class. He helped Lake Country Lutheran to a 5-0 record in Kaukauna with his scoring, rebounding and defensive presence. Cleary works hard at his game, is improving in all aspects and appears to have his basketball still ahead of him. As a junior, Cleary helped Lake Country Lutheran to the Midwest Classic Conference title and averaged 11.4 points and 6.7 rebounds.

Ryan Westrich, 6-6, Jr., F, Bonduel
One of the better football prospects in Wisconsin's 2026 class, Westrich also excels on the basketball court. The big man boasts double/double potential in terms of scoring and rebounding, and he averaged 15.6 points and 8.8 rebounds as a sophomore for a Bonduel squad that went 26-2 under coach Duke Copp. Westrich was consistently effective near the basket for Bonduel in Kaukauna, helping the Bears to go 5-0 by scoring in double figures and grabbing multiple rebounds in each outing. 

Pools O-P Breakout Performer

Camden Schurk, 6-2, Sr., G, Pacelli
Schurk is on track to become the all-time leading scorer in Pacelli history as a senior as he begins his fourth year of varsity basketball with 1,185 career points. Jake Owens, a 2004 Pacelli graduate, currently holds the school record with 1,347 points. Schurk can get to the basket and finish in the paint. He has a quick first step and is aggressive getting to the rim. Schurk's stellar jumping ability often helps him get his shot off over taller opponents. In five games at Kaukauna, Schurk averaged 19.0 points. The two-time first-team all-Central Wisconsin South Conference performer is a good perimeter prospect who is working on improving his three-point and free-throw shooting.

Yusef Gray Jr., 6-4, Jr., G, West Allis Central
The ringleader for a West Allis Central squad that could very well dethrone Pewaukee and Wisconsin Lutheran as the next power in the Woodland West Conference, Gray is a three-level scorer with good size and length. He helped West Allis Central to a 5-0 record in Kaukauna and averaged 15.3 ppg during those outings. In the title game against Wauwatosa West, Gray scored 11 points and used his length and lateral mobility to make things difficult for Wauwatosa West's talented backcourt players. Gray is one of the state's top class of 2026 prospects and currently holds NCAA Division I scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Bryant, Grambling State and Iowa State.

Pools Q Breakout Performer

Kyler Marks, 6-5, Jr., F, Seymour
Marks is an extremely active and bouncy forward who impacts the game on multiple levels. He can score, rebound, block shots, run the floor and find open teammates. The leader for a very young but extremely talented Seymour squad, Marks scored 20 points and had a pair of three-point baskets in Seymour's 44-40 loss to West Allis Central. He is coming off a very impressive sophomore season in which he averaged 18.5 points and 11.7 rebounds on the way to receiving first-team all-Bay Conference recognition.
