Twenty-four teams from across Wisconsin and Minnesota competed at the 16th annual Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Summer Tournament held last Friday in Prairie du Chien. 

Following are some observations from the annual event:

Pool A Standings
North Crawford 3-0, River Ridge 2-1, Richland Center 1-2, Prairie du Chien 0-3. 

Pool B Standings
Lodi 3-0, Belleville 2-1, Cuba City 1-2, Lancaster 0-3. 

Pools A-B Most Valuable Player

Preston Follis, 5-11, Sr., G, Lodi
Follis is a long-distance sniper who can light it up at times from three-point range. He did just that in Prairie du Chien, sinking 16 triples in just three games, including eight in a win over Lancaster. He finished the Lancaster game with 26 points. He also had 18 points and four threes in a win over Belleville and 17 points and four more triples in a win over Cuba City. Follis averaged 4.4 points and 2.2 rebounds as a junior, but his shooting exhibition for Lodi in Prairie du Chien is a welcome sign for a program that hopes to challenge Lake Mills and Lakeside Lutheran in the Capitol North Conference next season.

Pools A-B Breakout Performer

Jackson Scholey, 5-7, Jr., G, Belleville
Scholey is a small but exceptionally skilled backcourt prospect who played well for the Wildcats in wins over Cuba City and Lancaster as well as in a loss to Lodi. Scholey, who averaged 12.5 points as a sophomore and earned second-team all-Capitol South Conference recognition, dropped 29 points on Lodi in a 60-57 loss, scoring from distance, in transition and from the foul line. He also had 22 against Lancaster and 20 verus Cuba City. Scholey is one of three returning starters for Belleville along with Evan Thomas and Brenden Pawloski. That trio figures to give first-year head coach Drew Shrader a solid base to build around as the Wildcats set out to repeat as league champions in 2024-25.

Pools C-D Most Valuable Player

Austin Luchetti, 6-6, Soph., F, Monona Grove
One of the better athletes in the 2027 class in the state, Luchetti has the size and strength to make things rough on opposing teams. But he also possesses very good skill and versatility. He can handle the ball in the open court, score facing the basket and score near the rim. He was especially impressive for Monona Grove in the Silver Eagles' 58-53 victory over Stewartville, Minn. He scored 25 points in the contest with a couple of threes, multiple trips to the foul line and several baskets in the lane. Luchetti averaged 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds as a freshman and figures to play a huge role for a Monona Grove squad that went 3-0 in Prairie du Chien despite losing many of its top players from a year ago to graduation.

Pools C-D Breakout Performer

Matthew Buckman, 6-4, Sr., G/F, Cambridge
Buckman is a scorer and finds different ways to put points on the board for his team. In three games in Prairie du Chien, the talented wing had five three-point baskets, made 10-of-11 foul shots and got to the basket and finished with his excellent jumping ability and skill. He averaged 18.3 ppg for a Cambridge squad that went 0-3 but was without several players expected to play big roles for first-year coach Alex Ranney next season. Buckman is the returning Player of the Year in the Capitol South Conference and already is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,517 points. He averaged 25.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a junior and is receiving recruiting interest from schools at the NCAA Division II and III levels.

Pools E-F Most Valuable Player

Sam Pitrof, 6-2, Jr., G, Racine Lutheran
The first thing you notice when watching Pitrof play is his consistent and highly impressive pop off the floor. He gets up for rebounds and shots exceptionally well. The second thing you see is his consistent effort on both ends of the court. An under-the-radar but extremely talented player, Pitrof helped Racine Lutheran to wins over Cumberland, Mineral Point and St. Croix Central in Prairie du Chien. He is a consistent scorer at the mid-teen level, but it's his other attributes that shine brightest. A returning second-team all-Metro Classic Conference choice, Pitrof averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists as a sophomore for an upstart Racine Lutheran squad that went 13-12 a year ago with an extremely young roster.

Pools E-F Breakout Performer

Brody Feldmann, 6-3, Sr., G/F, Elkhart Lake
Feldmann led Elkhart Lake to wins over Assumption (66-50), Gillett (53-36) and Seneca (52-38) with his strong all-around play. A physical player who is multi-dimensional with the ball in his hands, Feldmann scored in double figures in each outing for the vastly improved Resorters. But he also facilitated very well by getting into the lane and kicking the ball out to open shooters on the perimeter. Defensively, Feldmann can guard on the perimeter with his size and mobility, but he can also go inside and defend with his physical strength and toughness. A returning unanimous first-team all-Big East North Conference pick, Feldmann averaged 19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a junior.
