Week 1 WisSports.net Football Coaches Poll

Please note, divisional placement in our poll is based on our Enrollment Projections done earlier this year. Divisional placement in the WIAA playoffs is not determined until after the season and these projections can and will be different than the divisions at the end of the year.

Division 1

Arrowhead's stint at the top of the WSN Division 1 Coaches Poll was a short one, as the Warhawks went down to old rival Homestead last week. They slide to number six this week, as Kimberly moves into the top spot, followed by Muskego, Franklin, Verona, and Mukwonago in the top five. Madison Memorial dook down Waunakee and Oconomowoc defeated Sussex Hamilton, resulting in changes for those teams. Memorial is new at number seven, while Oconomowoc is eighth. Sussex Hamilton falls from sixth to tenth, while Waunakee is out of the WSN Coaches Poll since the final rankings of the 2013 season.

Division 2

One defending state champ replaces another in this week's Division 2 Coaches Poll, with Rice Lake moving into the top position after claiming a title in D3 last year. Badger won it all in Division 2 a year ago, but the Badgers lost a tough 35-33 decision to Slinger  and drop to fourth this week. Slinger is third. Germantown makes a big jump from fifth to second. Losses by River Falls (#3 to #10) and West De Pere (#4 to #6) drop both schools out of the top five. Racine Horlick moves into the poll this week, replacing Sun Prairie East, who is 0-2 against a tough early schedule.

Division 3

Notre Dame remains the top-ranked team in Division 3 this week, followed again by Catholic Memorial, Mount Horeb/Barneveld, and Grafton. Port Washington went down to Grafton, and the Pirates go from fifth to completely out of the rankings after the running clock defeat. Towards the bottom of the poll, Wisconsin Lutheran and Stoughton drop out, replaced by Menomonie and Whitefish Bay, who are each 2-0 on the young season.

Division 4

Plenty of movement in Division 4, though West Salem remains the top-ranked team in the division. Three-time defending state champion Aquinas, who moves up to D5 this year and was second in the poll last week, went down to Columbus, and the Blugolds dip to fifth. Columbus moves up three spots to second, followed by Xavier and Lodi. Losses by Berlin and Somerset drop them out of the rankings, with Racine St. Catherine's and Ellsworth entering this week.

Division 5

Wrightstown continues to occupy the top position in the Division 5 rankings this week, though Stratford's win over Edgar did close the gap slightly. After an impressive win over Platteville in Week 1, Darlington was hammered by Prairie du Chien last week, and it caused the Redbirds to plummet from third to ninth. Meanwhile, Prairie du Chien enters the rankings at number seven. Also new this week is Northwestern, as Lomira, Kewaunee, and Lancaster fall out of the poll.

Division 6

Not a lot changed in Division 6, where Mondovi still holds an edge for the top spot over Cloverbelt rival Regis. Auburndale is third, while Grantsburg's loss to Saint Croix Falls drops the Pirates from fourth all the way down to ninth. Luther enters the rankings after an impressive 28-0 shutout of Scenic Bluffs bully Bangor.

Division 7

There's a new top-ranked team in Division 7, as Potosi/Cassville ascends to the top spot. The co-op program replaces defending champion Edgar, who lost a rivalry game to Stratford last week and dips to third. Iola-Scandinavia is second. Kenosha St. Joseph also lost, to Racine St. Catherine's, and the Lancers fall one spot to fifth. Cambria-Frielsand moves down three spots to ninth after a loss to Cambridge, while Bangor and Lourdes Academy tumble out completely. Dunn-St. Croix teams Boyceville (#8) and Spring Valley (#10) move into the rankings.

8-Player

8-Player football teams got underway last week, and once again McDonell Central finds itself atop the rankings, as the Macks are coming off a narrow win over Clayton, who actually rises this week from seventh to fifth. Gilman is second followed by Thorp, while Hurley breaks into the top five at number four. Highland is new to the poll this week, as the Cardinals scored their first modern-era 8-player win, defeating Williams Bay 49-8.
