Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 2-8

Abigail Henriksen, DeForest

Henriksen had a great week with three top-two finishes and a win in the three events she golfed in. The sophomore golfer began by competing at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison at the Brookfield Central Invitational. She shot a 76 which tied her for second place. Her 37 on the back-nine was also second best on the round. Henriksen then competed in the second Badger Large Conference Mini-Meet at the Meadows of SixMile Creek Golf Course in Waunakee where she shot a 36 and was one stroke back of the leader. Henriksen finished her week off golfing in the Middleton Cardinal Invitational at Pleasant View Golf Course in Middleton. She earned top honors, finishing with a 73 which was two strokes better than second place.

Ayden Kazda, Amherst

Kazda had a big week for the Amherst boys soccer squad, leading them to a perfect 4-0 week. The Falcons began the week with a 9-0 shutout of Tri-County. The junior forward netted three goals and assisted on one other in the victory. He then had another goal and assist in a 5-1 win over Newman Catholic. Amherst then hosted a triangular in which the host team won both matches on Saturday. In an 8-0 win over Coulee Region Christian, Kazda netted a hat trick. He saved his best for last in a week-ending 9-1 win over Adams-Friendship, scoring five goals himself and assisting on two more. Over the four contests, Kazda tallied twelve goals and four assists.

Gabi Radichel, Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran

Radichel was a big reason why the Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran girls volleyball team went a perfect 5-0 and took home the title at the Black River Falls Invite over the week. The Lancers did not drop a set throughout the day, sweeping Melrose-Mindoro, La Farge, Black River Falls, La Crosse Logan, and New Richmond 2-0. The junior outside hitter tallied 52 kills, 29 digs, 6 aces, 4 blocks, and 2 assists over the five matches. Radichel had 10+ kills in each match.

Paxton Rothmeier, Medford

Rothmeier was a threat to find the end zone every time he touched the ball as the Medford football team opened up its conference schedule with a 46-12 win over Antigo. The senior running back carried the ball just 11 times in the win, but rushed for 207 yards and four touchdowns. Rothmeier averaged 18.8 yards per play and a touchdown on almost every third play. He added a two-point conversion rush to account for 26 total points.

Aubrey Tinsman, Wabeno/Laona

Tinsman and the Wabeno/Laona girls volleyball squad took home a tournament title this past weekend at Crandon, going 6-0 and not dropping a single set. Before that, the Rebels had two matches during the week. First in a 3-0 sweep of Phelps, Tinsman had 36 assists to set her teammates up and followed that up with 37 more assists and two digs in a 3-1 loss to Bonduel. Wabeno/Laona swept Elcho, Pembine/Goodman, Phelps, Three Lakes, Crandon, and Florence at the the Crandon Invite. Tinsman tallied 83 assists, 7 digs, 3 blocks and a kill over the six matches.
