Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 9-15

Annika Jafferis, Middleton

Jafferis had a medalist and runner-up finish this past week for the Middleton girls golf team. Monday, the junior golfer competed in the Franklin Invitational at Tuckaway Country Club in Franklin. Jafferis shot a 76 and came in second place to the top golfer in the state, Payton Haugen. Middleton finished third in the team standings. Friday she golfed in the Janesville Parker Invitational at the Janesville Riverside Golf Course. Jafferis eked out a win by one stroke over Brookfield Central's Abbie Welch by shooting a 75. Her win helped Middleton to a team victory as well.

Carson Kaiser, Ripon

Kaiser found the back of the soccer net at a high rate this past week as the Ripon boys soccer team went 3-0 to improve to 6-1. In the Tiger's 5-0 victory over Winneconne to start the week, the junior midfielder scored a pair of goals. Kaiser then netted four more goals in a 5-1 win over Green Bay Southwest on Thursday. To cap his week, Kaiser recorded a hat trick, scoring all three of his team's goals in a 3-0 win over Fox Valley Lutheran. Kaiser has scored 18 goals and assisted on two more in seven matches this season.

Ian Kowal, Onalaska

Kowal was incredible as the signal caller for the Onalaska football team in a tight 42-38 win over La Crosse Central. The junior quarterback tossed four touchdowns in the victory including a late score to Noah Chenault to secure the win. Kowal was 20 of 25 passing for 330 yards for a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Kowal's performance led the Hilltoppers to a 2-2 record and 1-1 in Mississippi Valley Conference action, tied with six other teams in the conference for one game behind Holmen.

Emerson Roy, Stratford

The Stratford girls volleyball team went 6-0 this past week, including 5-0 and a tournament title at the Auburndale Invite over the weekend. Roy was one of the big reasons why. In a 3-1 win over Newman Catholic on Thursday, the senior setter had 16 assists, 10 digs, 2 kills, and 1 block. Stratford then went to Auburndale where they had victories over Newman Catholic, Assumption, Pacelli, Prentice, Auburndale, and Iola-Scandinavia, dropping just one set along the way. Roy tallied 53 assists, 19 digs, 5 kills, 3 aces, and 1 block over the 11 sets played. Stratford was ranked sixth in Division 3 in the WVCA State Rankings last week.

Connor Tracy, Brookfield Academy

Tracy was outstanding on the soccer pitch this past week as the Brookfield Academy boys soccer team went 4-0. The sophomore midfielder was all over the field in the team's opening 5-0 win over Kenosha Christian Life, netting four goals and assisting on another. He followed it up with an eye-popping five goals in the Blue Knight's 7-0 victory over Watertown Luther Prep. Tracy finished his week with three goals and an assist in a 5-1 win over North Fond du Lacy co-op and three goals in a 4-0 win over Slinger at the Beaver Dam Quad. Over the week, Tracy netted 15 goals and two assists, accounting for 17 of the 21 goals scored by the Blue Knights.
