Onalaska junior Ian Kowal has been selected as the Box Out Sports Athlete of the Week for the week of September 9-15 after a statewide vote on WisSports.net. 

There were 2,305 total votes this week. Kowal topped all vote getters with 873 votes. Ripon's Carson Kaiser finished in second with 441 votes.

Kowal was incredible as the signal caller for the Onalaska football team in a tight 42-38 win over La Crosse Central. The junior quarterback tossed four touchdowns in the victory including a late score to Noah Chenault to secure the win. Kowal was 20 of 25 passing for 330 yards for a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Kowal's performance led the Hilltoppers to a 2-2 record and 1-1 in Mississippi Valley Conference action, tied with six other teams in the conference for one game behind Holmen.

For the season, Kowal has thrown for 595 yards and six touchdowns with a 68% completion percentage through four games, leading Onalaska to a 2-2 record.

Kowal and the Hilltoppers take on La Crosse Logan this Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference matchup.
