Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 23-29

Christian Collins, Notre Dame

Collins was a workhorse back, carrying the Notre Dame football team to a 28-21 win over Menasha and a 6-0 start to the season. The senior running back carried the ball 31 times for 217 yards, good for a seven-yard average. He found the end zone three times, one in the second quarter and twice in the third, including a 72-yard game to start the second half off. Collins and the Tritons are the top ranked team in the WSN Football Coaches Poll.

Graham Foerster, Westosha Central

The Westosha Central boys volleyball team went 5-0 on the week, including a tournament title at Kenosha Indian Trail on Saturday. Foerster was a big reason why. The senior setter began his week with 22 assists, 3 aces, 3 digs, and 2 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Beloit Memorial. The Falcons then swept Kenosha Bradford, Appleton East, Brookfield East, and Kenosha Indian Trail in straight sets at the Indian Trail Invite. Foerster tallied 95 assists, 19 digs, 3 kills and 1 ace over the eight sets.

Karli Molnau, Lake Country Lutheran

The Lake Country Lutheran girls volleyball team won six matches this past week and Molnau was a big reason why. The senior outside/middle hitter began her week a little slow with just five assists and three kills in a 3-0 sweep of Messmer, though she did play just one set. She then had 16 kills, 9 digs, 5 aces, and an assist in a 3-1 win over Brookfield Academy. The Lightning then competed in a home tournament and swept four matches over Whitewater, Racine Lutheran, Oostburg, and Notre Dame en route to a tournament title. Molnau recorded 46 kills, 12 digs, 5 blocks, and 2 aces over the eight sets.

Rebecca Ring, Edgewood

Ring was exceptional as the Edgewood girls volleyball team took home a tournament win in their own invite this past Saturday. Before that, the Crusaders split matches with Sauk Prairie and Portage during the week. The senior outside hitter did not play in the loss to Sauk Prairie but had 13 kills, 11 digs, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 aces in the 3-1 victory. Ring tallied 49 kills, 32 digs, 7 aces, and a block in the four match wins. Edgewood swept Lake Mills and Wisconsin Dells 2-0 and won 2-1 over Madison Memorial and Mount Horeb.

Ruben Rothaemel, Sheboygan Falls

Rothaemel has been almost impossible to score on this season for the Sheboygan Falls boys soccer team. The senior goalkeeper continued that trend this past week as the Falcons went 1-0-1 on the week. In a 5-1 win over Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Rothaemel did allow the one goal, but had seven saves in the process over 80 minutes in net. He followed that up with double digit saves in a 0-0 tie with Plymouth, deterring ten shots on goals. For the year, Rothaemel has a 94.7 save percentage and has allowed just four goals to 71 saves.
