Delavan-Darien rallied from a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to storm back and defeat fourth-seeded Kettle Moraine Lutheran 28-25 on the road Friday night. The Comets win a playoff game in their first appearance since 2016. Quintin Arizola threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns, adding 53 yards on the ground.
All the scoring came in the first half, as seventh-seeded Elkhorn went on the road to take down second-seeded Monroe 17-14. It is the first playoff win for the Elks since a state semi-final trip in 2004. Ryan Stacy had a big game, going for 133 yards and a score on the ground.
River Ridge was third in the tough Six Rivers Conference, but got sent on the road in Level 1 against Scenic Bluffs member Cashton. The Timberwolves dominated 55-14, and this week will make the trip to another Scenic Bluffs team, top-seeded Bangor. Nine different players had at least one carry for River Ridge in the win over Cashton, led by 10 for 123 yards and a score from Andrew Nies. Brandon Davis threw a pair of touchdowns.
Waterford was the lowest seeded team to score a Level 1 victory in Division 3, though it wasn't totally unexpected. The Wolverines have now won six straight after opening the season with four consecutive losses against a tough schedule. Jax Pesch had 146 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries as Waterford took down third-seeded Stoughton 20-14.
Bob Hyland's legendary 54-year coaching career came to a sudden end in Level 1, as second-seeded Saint Mary's Springs fell to crosstown rival and seventh-seeded Winnebago Lutheran 21-20 on Friday night. The Ledgers scored with about a minute remaining, but a potential go-ahead two-point conversion failed. It was especially shocking given the teams met in the final regular season game, with Saint Mary's Springs winning 37-7 in that one. Winnebago Lutheran quarterback Gannon Schwartz had a career day as Winnebago Lutheran defeated Saint Mary's Springs 21-20 last week. He ran for 148 yards and a score, while also throwing a pair of touchdowns.
