Athlete of the Week Nominees: October 21-27

Jack Bretzmann, New Berlin Eisenhower

Bretzmann was the top goal scorer for the Lion's boys soccer team as Eisenhower won a regional title this past weekend. The senior forward netted a hat trick and added an assist in Eisenhower's 9-1 win over Cudahy/St. Francis in the opening round of regionals. The Lions then squared off with Whitnall in a four-seed versus five-seed matchup as Eisenhower came away with a 4-2 victory and a regional title. Bretzmann scored another two goals in the win, finishing regional play with five total goals and one assist.

Emmerson Drobac, Deerfield/Cambridge

Drobac will compete at state in cross country for the third straight season after winning her sectional and posting the fastest time, regardless of division, across the entire state. The junior runner competed at the Deerfield/Cambridge sectional and finished the race in 17:16.74, over a minute faster than the second place finisher. Drobac's time was the fastest in the entire state in sectionals by over 20 seconds compared to the second fastest finish. Drobac will now run in the WIAA Division 2 State Girls Cross Country Meet for the third straight year after finishing ninth as a freshman and fifth as a sophomore.

Logan George, D.C. Everest

George was nearly perfect from his quarterback position as he led D.C. Everest to a an upset over second-seeded Hudson 50-21 in a WIAA Level 1 Playoff game. The senior signal caller completed 15 of 19 passes for 255 yards and four scores for a perfect 158.3 quarterback rating. George added one-yard touchdown run. He had touching passes of 4, 5, 8, and 9 yards to lead the seventh-seeded Evergreens to victory.

Bria Gruen, Royall

Gruen was electric as fourth-seeded Royall won a pair of matches and captured a girls volleyball regional title this past weekend. The junior recorded 28 kills, 27 digs, 2 aces, and 1 block in Royall's 3-2 thriller of a win over fifth-seed De Soto. Gruen and the Panthers then squared off with top-seeded Highland in a Regional Final contest on Saturday night. Gruen finished with 21 kills, 21 digs, 2 aces, and 2 blocks as Royall won the match 3-1 and took home a regional title.

Grady Lenn, De Pere

Lenn punched his way to the WIAA Division 1 State Cross Country Meet this past weekend by recording the best time of any male sectional winner across any division in the state. The junior runner and his teammates competed at the Manitowoc sectional which was run on the Meadow Links Golf Course in Manitowoc. Lenn finished the race in 15:04.2 which was over 40 seconds better than the second place finisher in his own sectional and nearly 20 seconds better than the second best time across the state. He returns to State for the third straight season after finishing seventh as a freshman and third as a sophomore.
