Week 8 WSN Coaches Poll

Division 1

The big news this week was the upset of top-ranked Madison Memorial by cross-town rival Madison East.  Memorial had not been playing well the last couple weeks and some wondered if they were getting a little complacent.  There were also issues with some of their star players being held out of the starting lineup for discipline reasons.  This all came to a head when a focused and motivated East team took it to them in every way.  The question then became, how far does Memorial fall and who is the new #1?  Well Milwaukee Washington has been consistently a very good team all year and have been rewarded by the coaches with the top spot in the new polls.  Memorial slipped to #3 behind Germantown, with Racine Horlick nipping at their heels.  With the win Madison East went from unranked to #8.  The Purgolders have gotten better as the year has progressed, and currently sport a seven game winning streak.  There was little change in the rest of the rankings, with former #14 Racine Park suffering the only other loss and dropping from the Top 15.

Division 2

Only two losses by teams in last week's Top 15 meant relative stability in the newest rankings.  #10 Medford suffered their first loss, a 33 point drubbing at the hands of Antigo, and barely cling to the #15 spot.  Pewaukee also lost a game and their fall from the polls allowed unbeaten St. John's Northwest Military Academy to move in at #14.  Featuring an intriguing mix of talent from across the country, this boarding school in Delafield is making noise for the first time since current Badger starter Trevon Hughes was around.

Division 3

More intrigue at the top of Divsion 3.  Cuba City became the fourth team this year to be ranked in the top three and lose.  The Cubans neutral court loss to Darlington dropped them to #5.  Division 3 is the only division with two one-loss teams at the top, Racine St. Cat's and LaCrosse Aquinas.  Former #8 Grantsburg fell from the ranks of the unbeatens courtesy of a 70-61 loss to out-of-state Braham and slid to #12.  Viroqua and Boscobel both entered the rankings last week for the first time sporting unblemished records.  The pressure must have gotten to them (or they just got beat by better teams) as both lost last week.  Viroqua holds on at #15 while Boscobel has fallen out completely.  A big home game tonight versus Cuba City gives the Bulldogs a chance for redemption and a win likely vaults them into the Top 10.  Amherst has recovered nicely from a loss to Pacelli in the Sentry Classic championship game, and come into this week's rankings at #10.  Tri-County returns as well.

Division 4

Former #4 (and previously undefeated) Gilmanton was the only top ten team to lose last week, with the loss dropping the Panthers to #9.  Much like the Girls Division 4 rankings, the bottom of the boys rankings has been a very volatile place to be.  Rib Lake, Kickapoo, and Destiny all lost last week.  Clayton and Alma took advantage of this to move into the Top 15 at #13 and #15 respectively.
