Week 12 WSN Coaches Poll

Division 1

Germantown climbed as high as #2 only a few short weeks ago, but two losses in the last two weeks has dropped the Warhawks to #6, this despite an impressive win over Milwaukee Hamilton recently.  #6 Baraboo surprised many by remaining undefeated for much of the year, but a shocking loss to rival Reedsburg last Thursday has dropped the Thunderbirds to #9.  Former #8 Kimberly had seemingly begun to round into form under new coach Lucky Wurtz, but back-to-back losses including a 30-point home loss to Appleton East has thrown the team's future up in the air once again.  The Papermakers are no longer ranked in the Top 15.  Superior comes into the rankings at #14 to take their place.  #15 Racine Park remained in that spot despite a tough loss to #3 Racine Horlick.  Milwaukee Washington, Madison Memorial, Racine Horlick, and Bay Port once again occupy the top four spots.

Division 2

Big news here, as season-long top-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran was upset by Little Ten foe West Bend West.  Northwestern moves into the top spot, with Waupun hot on their heels.  Wisco drops to #4, one spot behind Whitefish Bay.  Former #7 Edgerton lost back-to-back Rock Valley-North games last week, and fall completely out of the rankings.  #10 Valders got knocked off by Roncalli, although they still hang on in the Top 15 at #15.  Port Washington picked up a huge win over Germantown, and were rewarded with an invite back into the Top 15 at #14.

Division 3

More intrigue here, as Fall Creek's reign at the top was ended at the hands of Eau Claire Regis.  Despite two losses, Racine St. Cat's moves back into the top spot, and deservedly so in the eyes of this observer.  Colby sits as the only undefeated team left in D3, and occupy the #2 spot.  Fall Creek slipped to #5 with their loss.  Roncalli had a great week, picking up a win over former #7 Brillion in addition to their win over Valders.  The Jets moved up three spots to #11, while Brillion slipped to #10.  Whitefish Bay Dominican has played one of the toughest schedules in D3, including a game last week versus D2's #3 team Whitefish Bay.  The public school came out on top of the private school in that one, dropping the Knights to #13.  There is no doubt they remain one of the favorites, and have to be hoping for a third matchup with Racine St. Cat's in a potential sectional semi-final.  The only newcomer to the rankings this week is Marshall, taking the place of a New Glarus team that was upset by a short-handed Wisconsin Heights team last Tuesday.

Division 4

It was a tough week for the top of the D4 division, as each of the top three teams lost.  Randolph was knocked off by Badger (a D1 state tournament team last year), Assumption by Marathon, and Blair-Taylor by Royall.  So who's #1?  Well, the coaches (and most people across the state) still think it is Randolph.  Both of the Rockets losses have been to Division 1 teams.  Assumption remained #2, while Blair-Taylor slipped to #6.  The trend of teams in the bottom third of the rankings losing continued, with four of the bottom five taking losses.  It's getting harder and harder to identify deserving teams, as evidenced by the fact that two five-loss teams are ranked this week.
