Travis Wilson, 12:21 pm - Assumption pulls out the victory 65-54 behind a 1-3-1 defense that forced a lot of turnovers and a big performance from Alex Erdmann.  The Division 4 title game will be Benton versus Assumption.  Should be a good matchup.

Ah, if only we could get everyone to proof-read signs.  They just showed some Assumption fans on the big-screen and TV with a sign that said "Go Royals, Your Magic".  Unfortunately the correct usage there is "you re".  I do give them some slack though, as it appeared to be a couple middle school/elementary school kids I believe.  Parents may need to step in and edit in these kinds of situations.

SMC is making a nice little run here with about 5 minutes left.  They dug themselves quite a hole though with all the turnovers (23 to be exact so far) that Assumption s 1-3-1 has forced.  55-45 Assumption with 5:02 left.

By the way, Saint Mary Central coach Brian Jakubek has a solid entry in the "Best Dressed Coach" contest, with a nice powder blue vest over his dress shirt.

Both schools have now done the "rollercoaster" thing.  Seriously?  Isn't that kind of played out at this point?  I guess it takes longer for that kind of news to get to the smaller schools.

Travis Wilson, 11:32 am -
Update:  The Assumption dance team performed and they were solid.  The performance was interrupted however when a large contingent of public school supporters began yelling that a multiplier was needed to keep these private school dance teams from taking over the lower divisions.  Some even demanded the private school dance teams go back to WISDTA, the Wisconsin Independent School Dance Team Association.  Word on the street is a 35 page forum thread will pop up on our message board soon debating the issue.

Quite the high-scoring first halves we've had today in D4.  Assumption is up 43-32 on Saint Mary Central after SMC's Eric Ransom hits a running 25-footer at the buzzer.  We're anxiously waiting to see if either school has a dance team so we can provide a full report.

In other news, I'm working on my third cup of coffee for the morning and am flying high!!

Benton took care of business in Game 1 today, and Assumption has gotten off to a good start in Game 2.  Their 1-3-1 defense has frustrated Saint Mary Central into several early turnovers.  The Assumption crowd to our right is very large (just as big as either of the two public school teams earlier) and the student section is very vocal and into the game early on.

Cheers to Benton Coach Jim Blaine for his snazzy entry in the "Best Dressed Coach" contest.   Spit-shined shoes and a spiffy green sport coat will get him far.  Although I may not have Rick's fashion sense (Sara doesn't tell me I dress nice like she does Rick), I gotta like Blainer's outfit.

Jeers to the B-T dance team coach who forgot to bring the CD with the music they were supposed to dance to at halftime, leaving the dancers crouching on the court for a minute before any music started.

Nicholas Kartos, 9:47 am - Benton finally puts some threes in the hole and combined with their strong drives to the hoop they extend their lead to 39-23 at half.  They currently have 24 points in the paint and 12 points off of turnovers.

Cheers to Benton for having the "Minnesota Rouser" as their fight song, a song near and dear to my heart as a North Fond du Lac alumn...

Jeers to whoever is naive enough to believe the homemade "Crazy MF's" shirts that the BT fans have stand for "Magnificant Fans"...  I'm shocked they have been allowed to wear them...

Rick Hamilton, 9:30 am –
Young is right. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I've never seen a player celebrate as much as B-T's Hank Kujak. After he opened the game with a three, he was jumping up and down pumping his fists like it was first basket wins.

Benton extends to a 32-18 lead.

Nicholas Kartos, 9:26 am - The young kids from Blair-Taylor are not backing down from Benton and have taken a 16-15 lead at the start of the second quarter.

If Benton was hitting their perimeter shots this could be a different game right now. As a fan you have to appreciate their "any shot, anytime" philosophy. I have seen Benton many a time in the summer and if they get it going watch out. In particular this last summer they took out teams from all divisions, private or public, in several tournaments and earned the respect of a lot of coaches around the state.

Travis Wilson, 9:11 am -
The Battle of the B's has kicked off as Benton takes on Blair-Taylor.  I will offer my requisite "I hate driving and parking in Madison" comment and we can then all move on to watching the games.  Benton's Connor Hendricks has been battling a nasty flu bug, and was even sent back to Benton on Wednesday.  It was uncertain if he'd play today, but he's out there and going to give it a go.
