Year after year and time after time, I've written Fastpitch Bulletins that included the importance of coaches knowing the rulebook better than the umpires do. I've also written Bulletins telling coaches that it is important to have a rulebook with you at the game.

 

At a recent game in the Madison area, a coach was visiting his pitcher in extra innings when the umpire informed him that he'd have to remove his pitcher. The coach knew the rule and knew where to find it in the rulebook. He held the game up to teach the umpire the rule.
