Wisconsin Sports Network, the state's most popular high school sports website, announced today that Chad Gunnelson will be joining the staff as their new track and field expert and contributing writer.

Gunnelson has been involved in track and field in Wisconsin for the past 13 years. The last 5 of those years serving as the head coach at Madison East High School. The Purgolders track program saw immediate improvements under the direction of Gunnelson and a new staff. In his second year as head coach, East qualified 25 athletes for sectionals and 9 athletes for state placing two of those athletes on the podium.  This after East sent only 1 athlete to sectionals just 2 years earlier. During his tenure, East saw 4 school records fall, 2 on the boys and side and 2 on the girls. Gunnelson has coached 10 school record holders, 23 state qualifiers, and multiple conference and city champions.

Outside of track and field, Gunnelson is the owner of Athletic Republic, a science-based sports performance training facility in the Madison area that helps improve the confidence and ability of youth through professional athletes competing in a wide range of sports.

He also coaches football in Madison serving as the offensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for Madison Memorial High School.

"Our track site has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few seasons and adding a dedicated writer was one of our plans to expand our content this spring," said Nicholas Kartos, President and Founder of WSN. "In addition to results and honor rolls on our site we'll be able to take promotion and exposure of our great track student-athletes in the state to the next level."

Make sure you check back for weekly performance updates, athletes of the week, special interest stories, coverage of track and field throughout the state and much more.
