Dillon Bean, RB, Westby - The senior running back is no stranger to big numbers after going over 350 yards in each of his first two games last year and finishing first in the state in rushing during the 2009 regular season. But even he had never done anything like what he accomplished Friday night in a 61-30 win over Dodgeville. He accounted for seven touchdowns on the evening -- six rushing and one on a 65 yard kickoff return. All told me carried the ball 28 times on the ground and racked up 238 yards. A true iron man, Bean plays full-time on defense as well and recorded an interception in the 3rd quarter. He also converted five extra points as the team's placekicker.

Matt Fargo, WR, Mount Horeb/Barneveld - In an exciting game filled with offense, it's fitting that the final play resulted in the most exciting play of the night, and the game-winning score. Fargo hauled in a 24-yard Hail Mary (head coach Travis Rohrer said he prefers to call it "Sure Thing" during practice) from Danny Elver as time expired and the Vikings came back to defeat Milton 39-36. Fargo had caught a pair of third quarter touchdown strikes from 68 and 57 yards respectively and finished with 5 catches for 201 yards and three touchdowns.

Nate Gruber, RB, Port Edwards - Gruber only touched the ball eight times on offense, but scored five touchdowns on those attempts. As if that wasn't enough, he also returned a kickoff 71-yards for a touchdown as Port Edwards rolled over Bowler/Gresham by a final of 53-14. The junior running back  scored four touchdowns on the ground in the first half (runs of 4, 1, 68, and 24 yards) and opened the third quarter scoring with a 40-yard scamper. He tacked on a return touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Devon Linzenmeyer, Ozaukee - Ozaukee has not made the playoffs since 2003; Cedar Grove-Belgium had not lost a conference game since October 12th, 2007. Recipe for a blowout right? Think again. The Warriors rallied for a 35-28 victory, with Linzenmeyer providing four total touchdowns. He ran the ball 26 times for a tough 106 yards with 3 scores on the ground and also recovered a blocked punt in the end zone which, combined with the ensuing extra point, tied the game in the fourth quarter at 28 apiece. His 1-yard touchdown run with just under 4 minutes left provided the game-winning score.

Chris Smith, RB, Brown Deer - For as good as Chris Smith is, he may be one of the best-kept secrets in the state. Friday night he did his best to shed that label, scoring on the first and last offensive plays for his team as well as twice in between. His last score was a 25-yard scamper in overtime that won it for the fifth-ranked Division 3 team Brown Deer over the 14th-ranked Division 2 team Greendale by a final of 41-35. His 78-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage for Brown Deer gave them an early lead and broke Greendale's two-game shutout streak early.

Honorable mention:

Jimmy Coady, Aquinas - The move from quarterback last season to running back this year has paid dividends, and none bigger than Friday night when the senior ran for 230 yards and 1 score. Despite a late fumble, he and the Blugolds were able to hang on to defeat city rival La Crosse Central 18-13.

Kyle Coon, Boscobel - Coon was all over the field in a 28-21 upset win over Cuba City, rushing for 86 yards and one score and catching 8 passes for 138 yards and two more scores.

Alex Erickson, Darlington - The senior quarterback accounted for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air, ran for a pair of scores, and returned a punt and scored the first points of the contest on a 79-yard punt return in a 42-28 win over Fennimore.

Joel Mezera, River Ridge - Mezera ran for 343 yards on 35 carries (9.8 yard per carry average) and four touchdowns in an easy win over Pecatonica/Argyle on Friday.

Joel Stave, Whitnall - Stave broke out in a big way after being held to less than 200 yards in each of his first two games, going off to the tune of 416 yards on 23 of 31 passing. He tossed four touchdown plays on the night as Whitnall rolled St. Thomas More 52-7.
