Sam Brick, Greendale - Greendale and Whitnall both entered Friday's game 4-1 in the Woodland-Black standings, tied for the top spot in the conference. It was expected to be a shootout, with both team's running spread offenses featuring plenty of passing. Brick got the better of Whitnall QB Joel Stave, throwing for 329 yards and 6 touchdowns on 14 of 26 passing as Greendale won 52-21. He also carried the ball 20 times for 85 yards and yet another score as the Panthers now hold down sole possession of first place.

Toneo Gulley, Kenosha Tremper - Kenosha Tremper's Toneo Gulley has put together some good games in his first year in Wisconsin, but really broke through in a Week 7 win over Oak Creek. Gulley, a junior whose family moved here from Ohio this off-season, ran for 318 yards and 5 touchdowns on just 15 carries. He also caught two passes for 98 yards for good measure as Tremper won 49-21. He scored two early touchdowns to put Tremper up 14-0, but Oak Creek answered with three straight scores of their own to take the lead. Gulley responded by scoring three straight touchdowns over the next two quarters, putting Tremper ahead for good. The win allowed the Trojans to clinch a postseason berth.

Matt O'Connell, Clear Lake - Clear Lake quarterback Matt O'Connell has been outstanding all season, and continued that strong play Friday night against Flambeau. The senior signal-caller did a little bit of everything as the Warriors won 57-13. He completed 8 of 18 passes for 151 yards, ran the ball 16 times for 193 yards and 6 touchdowns, and also caught a 19-yard touchdown. The win keeps Clear Lake undefeated on the season and on top of the Lakeland-Large Conference.

Shawn Shillcox, Two Rivers - It was essentially a must-win game for Two Rivers Friday night at New Holstein, as the Purple Raiders needed to win two of their last three games to qualify for the playoffs. A Week 8 game against conference leader Plymouth would be a tough test, so they could not afford to drop this one to New Holstein. After falling behind 13-0 to open the game, Two Rivers roared back behind Shillcox, who ran and passed for second quarter TD's then helped the Purple Raiders pull away thanks to three fourth quarter scores (two in the air, one on the ground). For the day, he was 16 of 24 for 360 yards and three touchdowns through the air and ran for 77 yards and two more scores on twenty carries on the ground as Two Rivers won 43-29 and put themselves in much better playoff position.

Luke Smith, Menasha - Menasha coach Jeramie Korth said in our CoachSpeak interview a few weeks ago that he was just beginning to open up the passing game, and in Week 7 at Fond du Lac the Bluejays blew the lid off. Quarterback Luke Smith threw for 382 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 of 20 passing and also rushed for 55 yards and three more scores as Menasha eventually broke open a close game to win 56-35 to spoil Fondy's Homecoming.
