New Berlin Eisenhower junior guard Nicole Bauman has turned up the heat as the winter doldrums begin to creep in, averaging 26.5 points per game last week alone and earning this week's Splash of the Week.

Bauman has been a solid force on the Lions' defending Division 2 state championship run this season, but last week she really upped her game in a pair of Woodland Conference road games. At Saint Francis Tuesday, Bauman led all scorers with 25 points in a 76-45 win over the Mariners, then torched previously undefeated and No. 2 Pewaukee for 28 points in a 55-43 win in the Pirates' gymnasium Friday.

Bauman also sunk three triples against St. Francis as well as two more against Pewaukee as the Lions are just one more league victory from already clinching the Woodland Black division title. Eisenhower, ranked No. 3 in the latest WSN/WBCA coaches poll, has not lost a game since a late January upset at Monroe, and has outscored Woodland opponents by almost 31 points per contest.

Honorable Mention

Benton Boys Basketball: After almost four scoreless minutes, Benton outscored host Barneveld 19-0 in the first quarter Friday night and held on to earn the Six Rivers crossover victory 55-48. David Neis led Benton, which upped its season mark to 14-1 overall, with 14 points with Jonny Fawcett and Mitchell Brant adding 12 and 10 respectively.

Chippewa Falls/Menomonie Girls Hockey: Taylor Rudiger assisted on goals by Shauna Bollinger and Kendra Bowe in a 17-second third-period flourish to upset girls hockey heavyweight St. Croix Valley 3-2 Saturday night. The Cardinals tied the Fusion in mid-December, but handed St. Croix Valley its first loss against in-state competition this season.

Lancaster Girls Basketball: Behind a game-high 14 points from Leslie Larsen, the Flying Arrows overcame a 16-8 first quarter deficit to overthrow SWC rival and the Division 3 top-ranked squad Richland Center in a hard-fought 33-30 win. Lancaster, ranked No. 4 in the latest Division 4 WSN/WBCA Coaches' Poll, took over first place in the league with a 5-0 league mark and 12-1 record overall.

Meggie Schmidt, Edgerton: Schmidt recorded a double-double in the Crimson Tide's biggest game of the season in the form of 28 points, 10 steals, six rebounds and four assists as Edgerton knocked off Rock Valley North rival East Troy, 63-57. Edgerton, ranked No. 10 in the latest Division 3 Coaches Poll, took over sole possession of first place in the league with the win and moved to 13-1 overall.

Green Bay United Boys Hockey: The Gryphons scored the only first period goal and never looked back en route to handing FRCC-leading Ashwaubenon its first loss of the season in a 6-2 victory Friday. Green Bay got an impressive four goals and assist from Luke Karakas in the win over the Jaguars, and Karakas added another hat-trick Saturday in a 13-1 stomping of Manitowoc.

Wally Ellenson, Rice Lake: Ellenson led the Warriors with 25 points, including hitting the buzzer-beating 3-pointer, in Rice Lake's 66-63 victory over St. Cloud Apollo in the 5th Annual Border Battle Saturday night in St. Cloud. Apollo was ranked No. 6 in Minnesota's latest 3A rankings, while Rice Lake's win helped Wisconsin to a split with the Minnesota schools on the day.

Saxton Soley, Eau Claire Memorial: Soley pitched a shutout last Monday in the Old Abes' keystone victory over Wausau West, withstanding a 37-shot barrage from the Warriors. Soley is giving up just 1.02 goals per game in-net for Memorial, the top-ranked team in the state.
