Girls Volleyball Season Begins Tuesday

The moment you all have waited for has finally arrived—the high school varsity girls volleyball season kicks off today. Though many teams are still working through scrimmages and preparing for a long preseason weekend of tournaments, others will try to notch early wins at more intimate quads and triangulars Tuesday.

Tuesday’s Slate

Eight teams will converge on Neenah High School for the prestigious Battle of the Valley tournament Tuesday evening, including the defending champs and host Rockets who won the title at Kimberly last season. Eau Claire Memorial will host a quad with some pretty strong programs, including powerhouse West Bend East, program-on-the-rise Stevens Point and defending Mississippi Valley champ La Crosse Central. New London hosts its Bulldog Invite with Sheboygan Falls, Ashwaubenon, Green Bay East and Manawa Tuesday, and Watertown hosts a very potent quartet with Cedarburg, Arrowhead and Waupun on opening day as well. Check out our Scoreboard page for the full list of games and results.

Early Conference Play

Three conferences—the Marinette & Oconto, Ridge & Valley and the Mississippi Valley-- actually start league play in the opening week, all of them on Thursday. Interestingly, each M&O team plays in four conference triangulars throughout the season, and what better way to gauge this year’s squad than to bring in two league opponents for your season opener.

Conference Previews

We’re still cranking out our state-wide girls volleyball conference previews here as the season debuts, so stay tuned to WisSports.net for updates on those as well as a preview article later in the week on the major tournaments happening this weekend. The master list of those completed are in on our volleyball Forum page, so be sure to check those out as well.

Boys a Week Away

The boys are just as busy hitting the court this last week of preseason practices, as they will begin their season next week. Stay tuned for upcoming boys conference previews as well, likely after the girls are finished.

WSN Preseason Rankings

We’ll also be releasing our WSN Preseason Top 10 in each division, starting with the Division 4 girls this afternoon. While those rankings are completely subjective, it should give a good idea of what to watch for this fall season.
