The Team of the Week is back again for 2011. The voting this year is upgraded and is featured at the bottom of the article. Voting is open until Wednesday at 4 p.m., so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word.

Bloomer - The Blackhawks took control of the Heart O'North Conference race with a 39-12 win over previously unbeaten Cumberland Friday night. The running back tandem of Levi Nayes and Jeremy Seibel was outstanding, with Nayes serving as the workhorse with 30 carries for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns while Seibel served as the big play threat, rushing 15 times for 142 yards and 3 scores. The defense contained Cumberland standout running back Brady Rose, holding him to just 34 yards on the ground. Bloomer is now the only unbeaten team in the HON standings.

Colby - Thursday night's game had everything you could ask for in a standout high school football contest:  two outstanding teams, unbeaten records, and conference supremacy on the line. Colby scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 20-0 halftime lead over Regis and pulled away for a 34-15 victory. Five different players scored touchdowns for the Hornets, who move to 6-0 on the year and now have sole possession of first place in the Cloverbelt. Quarterback Aaron Koerner threw for two scores and rushed for another while Michael Cliver and Zach Peissig combined for 35 carries and 192 yards on the ground. Colby picked off a pair of passes in the game, including Brandon Wickersham's 55-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. With Brillion losing, Colby is likely to ascend to the #1 spot in the Division 5 Coaches Poll this week.

University School of Milwaukee - There was a lot on the line for the Wildcats Saturday in their game against Living Word Lutheran. A win would guarantee them their first playoff spot in four years, put them in sole possession of first place in the Midwest Classic-North, and knock off previously unbeaten and D7 #2 Living Word Lutheran. USM responded in a big way, jumping out to a 19-7 halftime lead and pulling away for a 39-19 victory. The Wildcats' ground game didn't put up huge numbers, but it did produce when it counted with five short scoring runs. Tommy Pennington was 6 of 9 for 114 yards including a key 39-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to Lane Stanford on a 4th and 1 play.

Waupaca - Xavier and Waupaca were expected to be the top teams in the Eastern Valley before the season started, and that has turned out to be the case. The teams entered Friday night's showdown unbeaten in league play (Waupaca lost in non-conference to West De Pere) with the winner likely to take home the conference title. Waupaca led 17-10 heading into the fourth quarter then held on in a wild final period to win 37-31. Quarterback Sam Menzies rushed for three touchdowns while Jordan Johnson had a key 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Comets move to 5-0 atop the EVC.

Wrightstown - Any time you defeat a defending state champion, it is a special accomplishment. For the Wrightstown Tigers it is becoming old hat. For the second time this year the Tigers knocked off a state champ, this time claiming a 21-14 win over last year's D5 titlist Brillion. Wrightstown beat D4 champ Kewaunee back in Week 2. The Tigers are now 6-0 after the win over previously unbeaten and D5 top-ranked Brillion. Jordan Johnson ran for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns, including what turned out to be the game-winning score with five minutes remaining. The game was still very much in doubt until Jon Braeger deflected a 4th and 5 pass in Wrightstown territory to preserve the win.
