The Team of the Week is back again for 2011. The voting this year is upgraded and is featured at the bottom of the article. Voting is open until Wednesday at 4 p.m., so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word.

Germantown - 67 straight North Shore conference wins; that was Homestead's streak heading into Friday's showdown with Germantown. The Warhawks made sure that came to an end, shutting out the Highlanders 27-0. Alec Richmond opened the scoring with a 76-yard run just 19 seconds into the game and Germantown added a touchdown in each of the final three quarters to pull away. Richmond finished with 115 yards and 2 scores while Ben Holcomb caught 3 passes for 103 yards. Quarterback Josh Mongan ran for a score and passed for one as well.

Highland - Highland had not made the playoffs since 2005 and had won just four conference games in the last four years coming into this season. Friday night head coach Shaun Reuter and the Cardinals completed an amazing turnaround by defeating unbeaten and Division 7 top-ranked Potosi 22-14 to claim a share of the Six Rivers title with the Chieftains. Workhorse running back Tyler Kleist scored all three Highland touchdowns as he carried the ball 29 times for 123 yards.

Iola-Scandinavia - The Thunderbirds were facing the daunting task of having to beat undefeated Shiocton just to qualify for the playoffs. Things looked even more bleak early in the game for Iola-Scandinavia, as they fell behind 12-0 after the first quarter. The Thunderbirds showed great determination however, rattling off the games next 21 points. Despite a late Shiocton touchdown, I-S held on for a 21-19 upset win that guaranteed them a postseason berth and also forced Shiocton to share the CWC-8 title with Amherst. Iola-Scandinavia did all this despite having no rusher with more than 47 yards and less than 70 passing yards as well.

Menomonie - The freshly minted Mustangs won a share of the Big Rivers title last Thursday with a thrilling 34-27 triple overtime victory over Eau Claire Memorial in one of the more exciting games of the season. Menomonie led 20-13 late in the fourth quarter and pinned the Old Abes on their own 1 yard line. However, ECM quarterback Matt Knapp engineered a 99-yard scoring drive, capped by a 9-yard pass to Andrew Davis with just 16 seconds left in regulation. The ensuing extra point sent it to overtime. Both teams scored in the first extra period but were held in check in the second. Facing a 4th and 17 on the first possession of the third overtime, Menomonie quarterback Neico Stokke found Cody Larson for a touchdown and 34-27 lead. The defense held on the ECM possession, giving Menomonie the win.

Waterford - The Wolverines managed just 122 total yards in the game and did not score a point in four quarters against conference-leading Badger Friday night...yet still won the game. A strong defensive effort of their own, along with a Badger turnover and 12 penalties, helped Waterford claim a 7-0 victory in the second overtime period on Friday. Greg Steffens scored on a 1 yard run and the defense stopped Badger's possession to force a three-way tie atop the Southern Lakes Conference between the two schools and Wilmot.
