Josh Baker of University School baseball has been selected as the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of April 30th through the May 6th following a statewide vote on WisSports.net.  Baker pitched a no-hitter and led USM in homeruns and RBIs last week as the No.1 team in Division 2 remained undefeated.  He led all our nominees with 1,844 votes (87.8%), easily defeating runner-up Sammy Laatsch of Wausau West (156 votes).

The Wildcats (16-0, 11-0 Midwest Classic-North) remained undefeated last week after routing Saint John’s NW Military Academy on Tuesday and Friday, and Waterford twice on Saturday.  Baker, the 2011 co-MCC Player of the Year, allowed just one run and struck out 23 batters through 10 innings last week, including a 5-inning no-hitter performance against SJNMA on Tuesday; USM won 18-0.  The senior also had three homeruns and 13 RBIs through the four wins.

Remember, the only way your favorite player can be named Army National Guard Athlete of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the next week's nominees to be posted Sunday afternoon.
