Below are the nominees for the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for the week of May 28st through June 3rd.  Voting is below and will be open until Thursday at 4:00pm with the winner announced Friday morning.

Jordan Blied, DeForest baseball – The Norskies (12-12, 5-7 Badger-North) didn't have a great regular season, but scored an upset-victory in the regional finals over #1 seed Holmen in the Division 1 playoffs.  Deforest advanced after an 11-2 win over Baraboo in the semifinals Tuesday.  Blied had three hits and four RBIs in that win but saved his most impressive stat line for the Vikings.  At the top of the seventh inning, with his team down 4-6, the senior hit a three-run homerun to give DeForest the final lead of the game; the game ended on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh.

Bonnie Draxler, Wrightstown girls track and field – The Wrightstown girls track and field team were five and a half points short of repeating as Division 2 state champions this past weekend in La Crosse.  Draxler, the defending champion in the 400m and pole vault, successfully defended both her titles with a time of 56.57 and a mark of 12’-7 (state record), respectively.  She also placed third in the 100m dash (12.52), totaling all 26 of Wrightstown’s points.
Alyssa Lind, Ripon softball – The Tigers (23-2, 14-2 Eastern Valley) are one game out of the sectional finals after beating Waupaca and Adams-Friendship last week in regional action.  Ripon nudged the Comets 4-1 in the semifinals before coming from behind to take down the Green Devils in the finals, 9-7.  Lind drove in all four of the Tigers’ runs against Waupaca, going 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs.  Two days later, with the team down 0-6, she hit a homerun in the fifth inning to put Ripon with two points, 4-6, before they outscored the Green Devils 5-1 in the final three innings.

Justin Rabon, Shorewood boys track and field – The Shorewood boys track and field team placed fourth in the Division 2 team standings this past weekend at the WIAA state championships.  Rabon, a junior, was responsible for all 30 points with wins in the 200m, 400m and running the anchor leg of the 1600m relay.  He won the 200m with a time of 22.06, just less than a tenth of a second ahead of runner-up Johnny Eagan of Wautoma (22.14).  He followed that up with a 48.85-second victory in the quarter-mile despite entering the event seeded eighth.  In the final event of the day for D2 boys, Rabon ran the last leg for the first-place 1600m relay, winning with a time of 3:22.41.
Mary Sigler, Assumption girls soccer – The Royals (15-2-4) are regional champions after defeating Sevastopol/Gibraltar and Newman Catholic on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.  They shutout the Pioneers co-op, 10-0, before traveling to Wausau to take down the Fighting Cardinals, 3-2.  Sigler, a sophomore forward, made a penalty kick in the 77th minute of the Newman Catholic game to give Assumption a three-point lead with less than three minutes left in regulation.  She had three goals and two assists against the Pioneers.
