Austin Ramesh of Northland Pines has been selected as the Week 1 WSN Football Player of the Week following a statewide vote on WisSports.net. Ramesh was all over the field as the Eagles took down WestPAC league heavyweight Calumet (MI) last Friday to open the 2012 season. He was chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1, narrowly edging Kale Pustina of Mount Horeb/Barneveld by the slimmest of margins. A total of 1716 votes were cast.

Ramesh had quite the summer, earning several Division I scholarship offers before giving a verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin. He continued his hot streak with a state-best 321 rushing yards on 21 carries as the Eagles rallied for a 30-28 win over WestPAC powerhouse Calumet (MI). A versatile player who the Badgers are looking at as a linebacker, he added 4 catches for 51 yards and a total of 17 tackles on the day.

Remember folks, the only way your favorite player can be named WSN Player of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
