The Baraboo softball team upset Madison La Follette to advance to Division 1 Sectional play. The Thunderbirds are this week's PlayintheDells.com Splash of the Week recipient.

Baraboo entered the WIAA tournament at a 7-seed and beat Tomah in the first round 7-0.

The T-Birds then knocked off 2-seed Madison La Follette 2-0 to advance to the Division 1 Sectionals.

Baraboo used agressive baserunning and capitalized on defensive lapses by Madison La Follette to get their runs.

Shelby Gerken had the T-Birds only hit of the game against the Lancers' Nicole Newman, who finished with 15 strikeouts.

Gerken hit was a bunt hit in the second. Courtesy runner Katie Weiland then stole second base and scored on two passed balls.

The T-Birds last run came in the second, Jessie Carignan drew a walk and scored on a what was initally a sacrifice bunt to get her to second base. The Lancers weren't covering third and when they tried to pick off Carignan going to third the errant throw allowed her to score.

Carignan got the win for Baraboo giving up 5 hits and striking out 7.

The T-Birds (15-5) will now play Verona after defeating the Lancers who entered the game ranked No. 2 by the Fastpitchchronicle.net.
