Beaver Dam and Mosinee each went 3-0 in the 14-team WisSports.net Warm-Up Classic held at JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells on Saturday.

Beaver Dam defeated Port Edwards (42-37), Markesan (48-38) and Appleton East (50-46).

Stellar junior point guard Garrett Nelson (6-0) led the way for Beaver Dam, using his quickness to repeatedly beat defenders off the dribble while also knocking down shots from beyond the three-point arc.

Senior Sam Wiersma (6-1), like Nelson a returning starter from last year's club that went 19-6 under coach Tim Ladron, also had a strong day for the Beavers, projected to finish second in the Wisconsin Little Ten Conference by the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook.

Mosinee chalked up victories over Royall (3432), Wausaukee (40-30) and Crivitz (46-44).

Projected to finish second to Rhinelander in the Great Northern Conference by the Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook, Mosinee continued its strong play from the summer during its triumphs in Wisconsin Dells. Coach Andy Bruess returns three starters from a club that finished 18-7 in seniors Jordan Budnik (5-11), Ben Fochs (6-1) and Jared Novitzke (6-2). Look for seniors Tyler Voight (6-6) and Logan Miller (5-9) to also play prominent roles for the Indians.

Port Edwards finished 2-1 on the day with victories over Markesan and Appleton East.

Coach Dave Gibbs may have had the most impressive individual player in the event in 6-foot-7 senior forward Jared Joslin. A two-year varsity starter entering his senior season, Joslin used his size, strength and skill to score, both around the basket and from distance.

A solid rebounder who also can make free throws, Joslin is a very good collegiate prospect who figures to be the leader for the Blackhawks, who also received solid contributions from sophomore Ian Gibbs (5-10) and freshman Ashton Gibbs (5-10).

Appleton East is predicted to finish ninth in the 10-team Fox Valley Association, but opponents who sleep on a team coached by John Mielke may be in for a rude awakening as the Patriots are more than capable of beating several teams on their schedule.

Competing without injured senior point guard Trent Brunker (5-9), Appleton East got strong showings from rugged senior forward Cole Krause (6-0) along with senior wing Parker Ourada (6-3) and sophomore guard Nathan Brice (6-0).

Bonduel senior Peyton Czarapata (6-4) is a deceiving athlete who can score off the dribble, in the post and from mid-range. He figures to have a big season for a Bonduel squad that hopes to challenge Amherst, Iola-Scandinavia and Shiocton in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference.

The Bears also got strong showings from three-point specialist Gage Petcka (6-3) and promising freshman Parker Bohm (6-0).

Phillips finished 1-2 in the Warm-Up Classic, but the Loggers could wind up successfully defending their Marawood North Conference title thanks to an experienced lineup that features good overall size and excellent physical strength.

Junior Cade Rose (6-3) is an athletic left-handed wing guard who can rip down rebounds and lead the fast break while also scoring with his accurate jump shot.

Seniors Kyle Karnosh (6-1), Jeff Mabie (6-0) and Ryan Giannoni (6-3) are also returning starters for Phillips.

Look for Crivitz and Wausaukee to push Peshtigo this winter for the title in the Marinette & Oconto Conference. Both Crivitz and Wausaukee return four starters each from talented clubs of a year ago and figure to enjoy more success this time around.
