WisSports.net Week 5 Player of the Week Nominees:
Max Alba, Franklin -- Alba missed the previous three games, but came back with a big performance as the Sabers took down rival Oak Creek 33-21 in the "Helmet Game". He finished with four touchdown passes, two in the second quarter to stake the team to a 13-0 lead, then put the game away with a pair of scoring throws in the fourth quarter. For the game, he finished 14 of 24 passing for 275 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Joe Garcia, Racine Horlick -- The Rebels had already lost one conference game, and were in danger of going down again as they trailed Kenosha Bradford 30-21 in the 4th quarter. After a Horlick field goal pulled the Rebels within 30-24, Garcia scored on a 69-yard touchdown run as Horlick held on for a 31-30 victory. He ran 20 times for 258 yards with 3 touchdowns, adding a 31-yard touchdown pass with just 9 seconds left in the second quarter as well.
Hunter Johnson, Darlington -- As has been the case in almost every game this year, Johnson did not get a carry in the second half against Cuba City, but he did plenty of damage before intermission. The senior Wisconsin preferred walk-on commit ran 13 times for 360 yards and 4 touchdowns, but that wasn't all. He also caught a 45-yard touchdown and returned an interception 70-yards for a score, all before halftime. For the season he is averaging 17.7 yards per carry with 21 touchdowns in just five games.
Jake Simuncak, South Milwaukee -- Simuncak did a little bit of everything to help the Rockets to their first win of the season, a 55-18 victory over Brown Deer. While the senior quarterback completed just 4 of 11 passes for 84 yards, he did have a passing touchdown. He really did damage running the ball though, with 308 yards and 3 scores on 35 carries. Not only that, he added an 80-yard kickoff return for a score as well, racking up 511 total yards in the contest.
D.J. Stewart, Kimberly -- We knew it would be a battle between the Papermakers and rival Appleton North Friday night. The game was tied in the first half until Kimberly got a late touchdown to go up 21-14, but it remained that way through the third quarter. Then, Stewart found his way into the end zone twice in the fourth quarter to help secure a 35-14 Papermakers victory. He finished with 212 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 carries.
