Recruited as an "athlete," Oertel could play any number of positions at the college level including running back, receiver, linebacker or safety.
One of the state's top running backs from the class of 2010, Oertel rushed 256 times for 2,056 yards and 23 touchdowns during the 2008 season in route to earning WFCA honorable-mention all-state, WFCA all-region, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel second-team all-area, Racine Journal Times second-team all-Racine County and first-team all-conference honors.
He also received Racine Journal Times first-team all-Racine County and first-team all-conference honors on defense after totaling 52 solo tackles, 22 assisted tackles and six tackles for loss at linebacker.
A four-year varsity player, Oertel has 359 carries for 3,023 yards and 40 touchdowns in his varsity career heading into his senior season. He also has 23 receptions for 272 yards.
Oertel was named Racine Journal Times first-team all-Racine County and first-team all-conference at defensive back as a sophomore and honorable-mention all-conference at linebacker as a freshman.
Also a standout in track, Oertel was a state qualifier in the 4x200 meter relay as well as a sectional qualifier in the 100 meter dash and long jump as a sophomore. |
